Miami Dolphins Practice Report and Injury Update: A Significant Special Teams Concern

The Miami Dolphins' injury report is still hefty Wednesday, even after a bye week. What's the latest on Robert Hunt, Robert Jones, and Braxton Berrios?

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — A week off was helpful for the banged-up Miami Dolphins, but it wasn’t a panacea.

Six players on offense were still not available to practice Wednesday, including two starters on the offensive line and the Dolphins’ most important special teams contributor.

Miami Dolphins Practice Report

The Dolphins not spotted during the portion of practice open to reporters:

  • WR Braxton Berrios
  • FB Alec Ingold
  • G Robert Jones
  • G Robert Hunt
  • WR Durham Smythe
  • WR Chase Claypool

Jones (knee) and Hunt (hamstring) both seem like longshots to play Sunday, while Ingold and Smythe have been playing through with minor foot and ankle injuries, respectively, in recent weeks.

If both guards cannot go, expect Lester Cotton to play at one spot and Liam Eichenberg at the other.

But there’s no easy fix if Berrios, who hasn’t practiced since the Dolphins’ Week 9 loss to the Chiefs, cannot go.

Beyond serving as the team’s No. 3 receiver — Berrios has 20 catches for 194 yards and a touchdown this season — he is also the team’s primary punt and kick returner.

Dolphins special teams coordinator Danny Crossman has called Berrios’ number for every returned kickoff and all but one returned punt. Berrios’ average for those two categories? 24.6 yards per kickoff return and 9.7 yards per punt return.

If Berrios is unavailable to go Sunday, expect to see Cedrick Wilson as the team’s primary punt returner (a role he filled late in the 2022 season) and Salvon Ahmed as the Dolphins’ primary kick returner.

One other potential issue to monitor: RB Raheem Mostert, whose 11 rushing touchdowns are the most in the NFL, practiced with a compression sleeve on his left leg.
