Miami Dolphins Practice Report and Injury Update: Will Jevon Holland, DeShon Elliott Play Saturday?

The Wild Card Weekend Miami Dolphins injury report has a lot of uncertainty, with two defensive backs and two offensive weapons big-time question marks.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Three-fourths of the Miami Dolphins‘ starting secondary was not spotted at the team’s lone practice ahead of their Wild Card game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

That’s a really bad development, considering they’re also going to be without their top three edge defenders and their starting off-ball linebacker.

The missing Dolphins DBs Thursday: Jevon Holland (knees), DeShon Elliott (calf), and Xavien Howard (foot),

Howard never had a chance to play this week, given that his foot, as of a few days ago, was in a cast.

But Holland and Elliott not practicing all week was a bit unexpected, considering both played in Week 18.

Both are questionable and will be game-time decisions.

Holland told reporters that he took himself out of the Bills game when it became clear his knees weren’t right. He was used in spot duty the rest of the way, logging just 27 snaps.

“It’s one of those things you can’t control,” Dolphins coach Vic Fangio said Wednesday. “It’s the injury situation. I know they both want to play and are trying to do everything they can from a treatment standpoint. I think DeShon showed his toughness and want-to by playing in that game the other night.”

If either can’t go, expect a big role for Brandon Jones.

“I think Brandon has done a good job,” Fangio said. “Like I’ve said before, in a weird way, the season has worked out good for him. He’s gotten a lot more playing time than he probably thought he would and it’s come in intermittent pieces, which was good because he had no training camp and offseason. I think he’s done well.”

On offense, the news is a bit better. While Jaylen Waddle and Raheem Mostert are both questionable with ankle injuries, they were at least able to practice Thursday. It would be surprising if both miss the game.
