College Basketball World Reacts to No. 21 Miami (OH)’s Buzzer-Beater To Remain Undefeated: ‘TEAM OF DESTINY’

Miami (OH) guard Trey Perry performed an acrobatic, game-winning layup, keeping the RedHawks perfect on the season on Friday night.

The No. 21-ranked Miami (Ohio) RedHawks were tied with Western Michigan and their 28-game winning streak was looking perilous. But guard Trey Perry had one of those March Madness-like layups as time ran out, giving the RedHawks a 69-67 win on Friday night.

With the win, the RedHawks are now 29-0 on the season, 16-0 in the Mid-American Conference. As the game-ending layup was made, the college basketball world went wild.

CBB World Reacts to Miami (OH)’s Late Heroics

Barstool Gambling’s account on X shared the clip of Perry maneuvering around the top of the free-throw circle before driving to his left. As he did, Perry was able to put the ball off the glass, and it fell right into the basket.

After watching the exciting final seconds, CBS Sports College Basketball Insider Jon Rothstein posted on X a friendly warning to all college basketball fans. Rothstein wrote, “WARNING: If you plan on watching college basketball during the 2025-26 season, please consult with your nearest cardiologist.”

Meanwhile, The Field of 68’s account on X also shared Perry’s final-seconds heroics. The account posted, along with the video, “TREY PERRY WINS IT FOR THE REDHAWKS!!! @MiamiOH_BBall REMAINS UNDEFEATED 29-0”.

John Fanta, a broadcaster for NBC Sports, made his thoughts known about whether the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Selection Committee should leave the RedHawks out of the Field of 68.

Fanta posted on X, “Let’s make this clear: If Miami finishes the regular season with a perfect 31-0 record, there is no way the selection committee should leave them out. None. Don’t care what happens in Cleveland. The RedHawks deserve to dance!”

The ESPN Insights’ account on X added a little more context to what Miami (Ohio) did on Friday night: “Miami (OH) remains undefeated … The RedHawks completed their SIXTH halftime comeback this season”.

The official NCAA March Madness account on X also shared Perry’s incredible game-winning layup online. That account posted, “TREY PERRY WINS IT FOR MIAMI … THE LEGEND OF THE REDHAWKS CONTINUES”.

Ryan Hammer, who hosts the “BlueBlooded” podcast and calls himself a College Hoops Enjoyer, posted on X, “Best player fouls out. Starting PG (2nd string) hurt for the game. Onto their 3rd string PG. Give it to the next guy up. 29-0. NAILS. Even on their worst day they find a way. MIAMI.”

Hammer also added an additional comment after seeing Miami (Ohio) pull off the late victory: “MIAMI CANNOT BE DENIED. THEY WILL NOT BE DENIED. NAILSSSSS.”

Perry scored 14 points for the RedHawks on Friday night, but Peter Suder led the team with 18 points, and Almar Atlason added 16 in the victory.

If nothing else, on a Friday night, the RedHawks have taken the college basketball world by storm. Now, all eyes will be on the team to see if they can keep on winning.
