With the Final Four just days away, teams are preparing to depart for Indianapolis. In 120 minutes of regulation, as long as there is no overtime, a national champion will be crowned. Michigan, Arizona, Connecticut, and Illinois will compete to see who will cut the nets down after Monday night’s game. One team dealt with a surprise today that could affect their starting lineup.
Michigan PG Elliot Cadeau Receiving Medical Attention for Allergic Reaction
With his team preparing to head to Indianapolis, Wolverines head coach Dusty May must deal with an unforeseen issue. Cadeau, the Wolverines’ starting point guard, is receiving medical attention, according to an ESPN report.
“Michigan point guard Elliot Cadeau is receiving medical attention for a possible allergic reaction before traveling to Indianapolis for the Final Four, the team said Wednesday.”
According to the report, Cadeau was transported from the Ann Arbor campus by ambulance. The university released a statement with more context.
“Before the team departed the Player Development Center today, Elliot alerted the medical staff that he may have had an allergic reaction to something that he ate.”
According to Food Allergy Resource and Education, 33 million Americans have a food allergy. While Michigan did not state what Cadeau ate, they provided an update.
“The doctors evaluated Elliot, and he is fine. Out of an abundance of caution, he is receiving medical supervision and will be traveling to Indianapolis later today.”
If Cadeau heads to the Final Four, he will likely play in Saturday’s matchup against Arizona. He leads the team with 5.8 assists per game and adds 10.2 points on 41.6% shooting. The junior transfer improved his three-point shooting to 37.7%. During two years at North Carolina, he shot just 28.1% from beyond the arc. Michigan depends on Cadeau to feed what many consider the strength of their team: the post players.

Cadeau’s likely Final Four start is crucial. Michigan cannot afford to lose another guard. In February, the program announced L.J. Cason would miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. He suffered the injury in a victory over Illinois. Up until that point, Cason averaged 8.4 points and 2.4 assists. While Cason only played 18.6 minutes per night, he provided a valuable spark to the offense.
Michigan will play the first national semifinal game on Saturday, facing Arizona. The tip-off is expected at 6:09 pm Eastern. Following that, Illinois will play the University of Connecticut. The tip-off for that game is scheduled for 8:49 pm Eastern. TBS will have the coverage.
