After two seasons with the TCU Horned Frogs, Jace Posey has decided to enter the transfer portal. The son of two-time NBA champion James Posey was reduced to a bit-part role at TCU during the closing months of the season.
Posey hopes for a reset in a new program to get his college career back on track after a frustrating sophomore year at TCU.
TCU’s Jace Posey Plans to Enter Transfer Portal
After a season featuring several highs and lows, Posey has seemingly decided to enter the transfer portal. Jeff Borzello of ESPN reported that the guard will be looking to join a new program when the transfer portal officially opens on April 7.

Posey showed glimpses of his talent at TCU, averaging 4.6 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 0.2 assists per game this season. He was limited to just 11.3 minutes of playing time per game this season, down from 12.8 minutes last season.
The 6-foot-5 guard’s highlight of the season was his 21-point showing against the Florida Gators at the Rady Children’s Invitational. He shot 6-of-8 from the field in that game and recorded a career-high points haul.
MARCH MADNESS: Fill In Your Bracket Now!
Posey made what is likely to be his final appearance for the TCU Horned Frogs during the second round of the men’s basketball NCAA Tournament earlier this month, playing two minutes against the Duke Blue Devils. He recorded 4 points on 2-of-2 shooting. He did not play in TCU’s first-round upset against the No. 8 Ohio State.
In his freshman year, Posey also competed in high jump for the TCU track-and-field team. After that, he joined the basketball team for his redshirt freshman year and broke into the starting lineup for the final few games of the season.
Posey becomes the first TCU Horned Frog to announce their plans to enter the transfer portal. The Horned Frogs finished sixth in the Big 12 Conference this year with a 23-12 overall record. TCU lost to Duke in the second round of March Madness.
A versatile guard, Posey will be looking to follow in the footsteps of his father, James, who enjoyed an NBA career that spanned 13 years. He represented several major teams, including the Denver Nuggets, Miami Heat, and Boston Celtics. Posey now works as an assistant at the Portland Trail Blazers.
The NCAA Division I transfer portal will officially open on April 7, one day after the championship game for the 2025-26 season. The transfer portal will be open for 15 days before closing on April 21.
