With the West Region’s Final Four spot up tonight, the No. 2 Purdue Boilermakers and No. 1 Arizona Wildcats head into the Elite Eight carrying two names that have drawn attention all tournament long. For both sides, the news is relatively calm.
Latest Injury Updates for Purdue vs. Arizona
C.J. Cox was listed as questionable heading into Purdue’s Sweet 16 matchup against Texas after hyperextending his right knee in the second round against Miami. He did not return to that game after the injury but was cleared to start against the Longhorns and ultimately played through it.
Purdue went on to beat Texas 79-77, with Cox back in the lineup and contributing. Heading into tonight’s game against Arizona, he carries no new injury designation and is expected to be fully available.
On the Arizona side, the Bryce James situation is a little different. The freshman guard has not played a single minute this season, not because of injury, but because he chose to redshirt. That decision was made to preserve a full year of eligibility starting in 2026-27.
Coach Tommy Lloyd confirmed the redshirt call back in February, framing it as a long-term development move rather than any reflection of James’ readiness. Lloyd pointed to his physical maturation and growing familiarity with the system as reasons for genuine optimism about what he can bring next season.
MARCH MADNESS: Fill In Your Bracket Now!
What that means for tonight is simple. Redshirted players cannot compete in the postseason of the season they sat out, so James will not be stepping on the floor at any point in this tournament. He has been on the bench all year, and tonight will be no different.
What to Watch for in the Arizona vs. Purdue Elite Eight Matchup
The two teams tip off tonight at 8:49 p.m. ET from SAP Center in San Jose, California, with a Final Four berth on the line. Arizona comes in at 35-2 and has won 12 straight, and it has looked the part.
The Wildcats dismantled Arkansas in the Sweet 16, with six players finishing in double figures and Brayden Burries leading the way with 23 points on efficient shooting.
Purdue is no slouch either, entering at 30-8 on a seven-game winning streak. But its path to an upset runs almost entirely through the 3-point line. Fletcher Loyer has knocked down four 3s in each of the Boilermakers’ three tournament games, and they will need that again to keep pace with a team that dominates the paint as convincingly as Arizona does.
If the shots are falling for Purdue, this game gets interesting. If they are not, Arizona’s depth and interior presence should be too much to overcome.

much excited about this matchhhh!!
