Analyst Gives Kyan Evans’ Top Quality Making Experts Excited For His Tar Heels Future

Kyan Evans’ basketball intelligence is already winning over North Carolina’s coaching staff. On a June 13 edition of Tar Heels Illustrated’s “Inter Drop podcast,” host Jacob Turner shared insights from sources close to the program.

“I’ve been told that there’s an IQ in the game there. If someone’s looking at someone as a point guard and they say he’s got a pretty good IQ, good feel for the game, that means that he’s connected the other dudes on the floor,” Turner said.

This ability to orchestrate play and elevate teammates has been evident since Evans arrived, even in his limited time. The insider noted that while it’s early, Evans’ knack for reading the game and involving others sets him apart as a true floor general.

At Staley High in Kansas City, he was a “Pied Piper,” as coach Chris Neff put it, drawing top players to pickup games that swelled to 50 people. “Everyone wants to be at the runs he’s at because you’re going to have an unbelievable time.” Evans’s presence made Staley’s gym a hub, where his charisma and confidence won hearts.

A 6’2″ guard who led Staley’s team to their first state championship as a senior, Evans earned four All-Conference selections, three All-State honors, and the Missouri Gatorade Player of the Year award in high school.

At Colorado State, Evans averaged 10.6 points, 3.1 assists, and 2.9 rebounds as a sophomore, shooting 44.6% from three after a slow start. His NCAA Tournament performance against Memphis, scoring 23 points on 6-of-9 shooting from deep, propelled the Rams to a first-round upset win.

Evans’ high basketball IQ and charismatic presence could be the glue for a reloaded Tar Heels roster. As Hubert Davis shapes his squad, Evans’s ability to connect players and make smart plays positions him as a potential catalyst for a deep run.

With his proven knack for leading and delivering in big moments, North Carolina fans may soon see why Kansas City’s “Pied Piper” is already impressing coaches.
