As it currently stands, Louisville men’s basketball ranks 23rd in the AP Poll with a 13-5 overall record and a 3-3 mark in conference play.
The team has been without five-star freshman Mikel Brown Jr. for eight straight games due to a lower back injury. As concern continues to grow, Brown commented on the status of his injury.

This season, Brown has played in 10 games, averaging 27.2 minutes per game. He is averaging 16.6 points, 5.1 assists, 3.0 rebounds, 0.8 steals, and 0.1 blocks per game. His shooting splits are .268/.553/.838.
Coming out of high school, Brown was rated as a five-star recruit, the No. 2 point guard, and the No. 7 overall player in the Class of 2025. Before committing to Louisville, Brown drew interest from several other power programs, including the University of Florida, the University of Alabama, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Kansas.
When the injury occurred, social media was filled with speculation about how it happened. Brown addressed the situation, saying:
“Just to set the record straight, my back injury DID NOT happen in the weight room. This situation is something that happened before the Memphis game and I took some hard falls in the Memphis game that made it worse. Coach Eli is my guy, he hasn’t and never will do anything to put my health at risk. He has been the main person working with me everyday to get back on the court as soon as possible! I had to let everyone know the truth. I will be back soon.”
Over their last eight games, Louisville has gone 4-4. The Cardinals have beaten Montana, California, Boston College, and Pittsburgh, but lost to Tennessee, Stanford, Duke, and Virginia.
For Cardinals fans, the update offers optimism that their starting point guard will return soon, though it remains unclear how quickly he will be back to full action. With Louisville positioned for a potential run in the ACC Tournament and March Madness, Kelsey may opt not to rush the freshman back into the lineup.
