Fab 5 Legend Jalen Rose To Star in High School Drama Series

The series, titled South West High, is being brought to television screens everywhere through Rose’s Same Page Entertainment label. This upcoming series is the first project from the newly created label.

With the series launch set for Feb. 23, a trailer has been released on social media, sparking excitement and anticipation.

The trailer depicts Rose playing Nolan Thomas, a former professional basketball player who returns to his alma mater as principal. The series is meant to showcase the world of amateur basketball in Michigan and its effects on kids in a struggling city and their schooling.

Per the synopsis of the series: As Nolan pushes for reform, he must confront painful truths about power, accountability, and sacrifice, realizing that saving a school may require risking everything he holds dear.

Rose, the star, co-creator, and executive producer, will star in his own series for the first time, aiming to spotlight the state of Michigan and its basketball-rooted community.

Although the series is a work of fiction, Rose drew real inspiration from his life story. Rose is a legend not only in Michigan basketball lore, but in the state and his community as a whole. Rose explained that the opening of the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy, a charter high school in Detroit, Michigan, in which he co-founded, served as the initial inspiration for the series.

“This series is fiction, but the spirit behind it is very real,” he said. “I wanted to share stories that reflect what I’ve witnessed for years, young people lifting each other up and believing in a future full of possibility. Creating this project also gave me the chance to collaborate with my longtime friend and former classmate Ty Mopkins, and continue telling stories rooted in our community.” Rose said.

Mopkins is also a co-creator and executive producer alongside Rose. The pair of close friends is also joined by Dennis Reed II, who wrote and directed the series.

This series from Rose and Same Page Entertainment aims to resonate with kids in Michigan and across the United States who play amateur basketball and dream of making it out of their struggling inner-city school. A story very similar to that of Rose, who went on to find plenty of success in the NBA after his fabulous run at the University of Michigan.
