Milan Momcilovic remains one of the best players still on the transfer portal, and a number of big-name colleges are in the hunt for his commitment. But the Iowa State big man is also testing the NBA Draft waters, and is in no rush to make a final decision on his future.
Kentucky, St. John’s, and Louisville are among the teams reportedly looking to land Momcilovic’s commitment if he decides not to go pro for another year.
Milan Momcilovic Coy on Future Plans As NBA Draft Decision Looms
Momcilovic is currently participating in the NBA Draft Combine, where college prospects aim to impress scouts and help teams make their evaluations. He averaged 16.9 points and 3.1 rebounds per game for Iowa State in his junior year, delivering standout performances en route to the Cyclones’ run to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
The 6-foot-8 forward told Isaac Trotter of CBS Sports that he plans to make his decision close to May 27, which is the deadline for college underclassmen to withdraw from the NBA Draft and retain their NCAA eligibility for next season.
“I’m still focused on the NBA Draft. I haven’t even talked to any colleges yet. I’m sure if I have to go back, there’s a spot open for me somewhere. But I’m still going through this process. The deadline is May 27, so I still got a couple of weeks… I got some teams lined up to work out for the next couple of weeks,” he said.
Momcilovic said that he would need assurances of “high interest” and a possible first-round guarantee from NBA teams to stay in the Draft beyond that deadline.
“If there are guaranteed contracts, that would be good. If it’s later in the second round, those are usually two-way contracts, then I’d probably go back. We’ll see,” he said.

Momcilovic further spoke about what he might be looking for if he were to return to college basketball next season.
“If I return to college, just [find] a fit that I can play well in, and hopefully, help my chances to go to the NBA the year after that. Hopefully I’m on a good team that can go far in the tournament,” he added.
After spending three years with the Iowa State Cyclones, Momcilovic will be on the move this summer. What remains to be seen is whether he will be wearing an NBA jersey or returning to college basketball next season.
