Gonzaga vs. Kentucky Prediction: An Early-December Top-20 Clash With Massive Implications

Gonzaga visits Kentucky for a top-20 clash in Lexington as Braden Huff, Graham Ike and Otega Oweh headline a physical, defense-first nonconference battle.

An early-December top-20 clash in Lexington brings together two teams that already look built for March, even if their résumés are still taking shape. Gonzaga’s unconventional frontcourt of Braden Huff and Graham Ike powers an attack that leans heavily on interior scoring, while Kentucky counters with a talented but still-settling group headlined by Otega Oweh, who appears to be finding his rhythm after a slow start.

With both teams boasting top-15 defenses and top-35 offenses but lagging behind nationally at the free-throw and three-point lines, this matchup sets up as a physical, possession-by-possession battle where Gonzaga’s size could quietly tilt the game in the Bulldogs’ favor. Early high-profile nonconference games like this often help define seeding and narrative arcs heading into league play, raising the stakes even more for both programs.

Gonzaga vs. Kentucky Prediction

The Bulldogs are a unique team when it comes to roster builds in 2025. They are getting over 30 points a night from their two starting bigs, and maybe a Twin Towers approach is crazy enough to work?

Braden Huff is shooting 62.8% from the field and played a huge part in their win over Alabama (18 points on 9-12 FG in 26 minutes). His development has been a highlight so far, while Graham Ike continues to do what Graham Ike does. He’s played 78 games with the ‘Zags and has been a double-double threat for all of them. He’s made just five of his 16 three-point attempts thus far, but his confidence to take two per game is a new wrinkle, and with the presence of Huff, one that could make this team very dangerous come March.

Kentucky already has three losses on their slate for 2025, but no one is calling L’s to Louisville, Michigan State, or North Carolina “bad” defeats. Otega Oweh opened the season in a bit of a funk, but he’s scored a season-high 16 points in consecutive games and made more than half of his attempts in three straight. He was their leading scorer a season ago (16.2 FG on 49.2% shooting), and the Wildcats need that confident version of him if they are going to defend their home court.

It’s early, but neither of these teams ranks inside the top 100 nationally in FT% or top 150 in 3P%, and that means this could get wild down the stretch. When it comes to picking a winner, I like the size of Gonzaga. If easy (FTs) and analytically sound (3’s) points are going to be available, the versatile front court grades out as an impactful edge.

Gonzaga wins a fun one 79-74
