The college basketball world continues to be amazed at what Duke Blue Devils head coach Jon Scheyer is doing with his top-ranked team at this time.
In fact, some have compared what Scheyer has done in four seasons at Duke to what Brad Stevens accomplished in his first four seasons at Butler. But one former star college basketball player has an issue with it.
Jon Scheyer, Brad Stevens Records Come Under Scrutiny
Former Wisconsin Badgers star Frank Kaminsky III, who was named National College Player of the Year back in 2015, had some thoughts regarding Scheyer’s and Stevens’ records. After Duke’s win over North Carolina State on Monday night, Scheyer is currently 117-24 overall.
His 117 wins match Stevens’ 117 at Butler in his first four seasons. Kaminsky, though, sees a difference between the two coaches.
I remember watching Jon Scheyer play in high school in Illinois. Best high school basketball player I ever saw play live
BUT
These are not comparable situations. What Scheyer is doing at Duke is nowhere near as impressive as what Brad Stevens did at Butler. Both fantastic… https://t.co/RjuoNTTzyd

“I remember watching Jon Scheyer play in high school in Illinois. Best high school basketball player I ever saw play live,” Kaminsky posted on X. “BUT … These are not comparable situations. What Scheyer is doing at Duke is nowhere near as impressive as what Brad Stevens did at Butler. Both fantastic coaches tho.”
In his first four seasons coaching the Bulldogs, Stevens took his team to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament representing the Horizon Conference. Butler reached the Final Four and national title games in consecutive seasons in the 2010-11 and 2011-12 campaigns.
Cole Adams, a college basketball enthusiast, seemed to share Kaminsky’s opinion, too. Adams posted on X, “Brad Stevens took a Horizon League school to back-to-back national title games.”

Stevens stayed at Butler for six seasons, finishing up in the 2012-13 season with a 27-9 record and a fourth appearance in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Scheyer is in his fourth season with Duke and has led the Blue Devils to three NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament appearances, including a Final Four appearance last season.
The Blue Devils have clinched the Atlantic Coast Conference regular season championship, the second straight season Duke has done so under Scheyer’s leadership. Now, the Blue Devils will march ahead into the ACC Tournament and, more than likely, a spot in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, too.
