College Basketball World Reacts to No. 1 Duke’s Dominant 44-Point Victory Over Notre Dame

Here's what the college basketball world had to say about Duke's 44-point win with another special game from Cameron Boozer.

Someone has to step up to beat the Duke Blue Devils. They look unbeatable right now after passing their biggest test of the season against top-ranked Michigan at the time. Notre Dame proved to be a much easier task as they dismantled the Irish. The 44-point victory for the Blue Devils was a statement to the college basketball world that they’re the best team in the nation.

College Basketball World Reacts to Duke’s Beatdown of Notre Dame

The Blue Devils are a level above the pack right now. They just handed Notre Dame its largest home loss in 128 years and its second-largest ever. Duke killed Notre Dame, 100-56, winning by 44 points. The Blue Devils are flat-out scary.

The only teams to beat Duke are Texas Tech and North Carolina, both of which made second-half comebacks of at least 12 points. Duke had the chance to close out those games, but couldn’t. This team could be undefeated, but the two collapses blemish a potential perfect season. Yet they are the best team in the nation anyway, and their 44-point win is just another example of their excellence.

Duke will be the No. 1 team until they lose. They sit at 26-2 on the year following tonight’s win. Head coach Jon Scheyer is now the first coach to have multiple 40+ point ACC wins on the road, according to ESPN’s research team.

They have the favorite for National Player of the Year in Cam Boozer. It was a Boozer masterclass for the Blue Devils against Notre Dame. He didn’t even have to play much to register an elite stat line.

Boozer racked up 24 points, 13 rebounds, 3 steals, and 2 assists. He only attempted eight shots on the night and made five of them. The Irish couldn’t guard Boozer and allowed him to get to the free-throw line 14 times. He made 12 of those 14 from the charity stripe to make the Irish pay.

The double-double from Boozer was effortless. In just 24 minutes, he outscored his season averages in points and rebounds.

He is averaging 22.6 points per game and 10 rebounds per game. He is averaging a double-double, and because of that, it is no surprise that he has tied the most games as a freshman with 20+ points, 10+ rebounds, and 80%+ TS.

Boozer’s adding his name to some crazy lists as he’s had 14+ points, 5+ rebounds, and 2+ assists in each of Duke’s 28 games. No player has ever had a streak like this in this century.

While Boozer wasn’t the only reason for the win, he was getting a majority of the attention for his special performance. NBA Draft analyst Tyler Rucker was in awe at what Boozer did in limited action.

“Cameron Boozer had 24/13/2/3 tonight on 8 FGA in 24 minutes. now go back and read that again,” said Rucker.

Boozer is almost guaranteed to be a top-five selection in the upcoming NBA Draft. His dominance continues to boost his draft stock. If the Darryn Peterson drama keeps on going, Boozer could play his way into being the top selection.

“Cam Boozer is so consistently incredible. What a prospect,” said one analyst.

The Blue Devils are thrilled that Boozer is theirs and will be riding his dominance as far as he can take them. He’ll be gone after the year, so they need to make the most of their chance. While they have plenty of talent beyond Boozer, there are few players in the nation capable of slowing down Boozer. Duke is dominant and has no plans of slowing down with Boozer and their elite supporting cast.
