The men’s college basketball transfer portal opened up on Tuesday and players are making their entrances into the portal. Although there are plenty of players entering the portal, the top journalists are fighting over who can be the first to report the news of key players transferring.
Over the last 24 hours, former ESPN reporter and DraftExpress co-founder Jonathan Givony called out On3 multiple times for stealing his reports shortly afterwards he tweeted them, causing drama between Givony and On3.
Jonathan Givony Calls Out On3 for ‘Copy-Pasting’ Reports
Givony is not thrilled with how On3 goes about their reporting. He took a shot at their tendency to consistently report the same news that he does but after him and without giving him credit.
Yesterday, Givony reported Baylor’s James Nnaji was entering the portal and On3 posted the news one hour later, crediting their own Joe Tipton for the news. On Wednesday, Givony reported that Duke’s Nik Khamenia has entered the transfer portal, and after On3 posted the news several minutes later, this tipped Givony over the edge. He didn’t mince his words about On3.
“Posted this at 9:55. On3 at 10:01. Wash, rinse, repeat for the umpteenth time. Since yesterday, dozens of reporters have reached out privately, saying they deal with the same thing constantly,” Givony said. “Most are afraid to call them out publicly. I’m not.”

Whether Givony’s complaints are justified, he’s coming with receipts to go along with his sentiment. Givony went after Tipton for his reporting of the Nnaji news and attacking his integrity as a journalist.
“Joe Tipton has built a career copy-pasting other people’s reporting and letting On3 publish it under his name,” said Givony.
It’s worth noting that one fellow journalist, Sean Paul of Field of 68, came to Tipton’s defense after Givony’s first tweet.
“Tipton actually started out making edits and has been in the industry for over a decade,” Paul wrote. “Wouldn’t say he ‘built a career copy-pasting other people’s work.’ He’s a good dude, too.”

The transfer portal will continue to run wild for the next two weeks until April 20 for women’s college basketball and April 21 for men’s hoops. Givony will continue to be very active reporting the latest breaking news, so it’s possible this media feud between Givony and On3 will get even more heated.
Some of the top players in the portal are Flory Bidunga, John Blackwell, and Juke Harris. The media will be closely watching where they might end up, and college basketball insiders will surely be racing to break the news of their commitments.
