Sinan Huan, a 7-foot center from Georgetown Prep, dominates the paint like few prospects can, but evaluators aren’t sold on his long-term potential. The four-star Class of 2026 prospect from China led the FIBA U19 World Cup in blocks by a massive margin, yet carries questions about his development ceiling.
Sinan Huan Undervalued Despite FIBA U19 World Cup Dominance
On3’s Jamie Shaw talked about the disconnect in his evaluation of the Georgetown Prep standout. Shaw praised Huan’s dominant tournament performance while questioning his future potential.
He explained what made Huan stand out, “Sinan Huan played the first couple of Nike EYBL Sessions with Team Durant before focusing on his time with China in the U19 FIBA World Cup. Where the 7-footer thrived in international play was as a rim protector. Huan led the entire event in blocks per game, averaging 5.0 per contest.”
The dominance was historic. Huan became just the fourth player in FIBA U19 World Cup history to average 5.0 blocks per game, joining Victor Wembanyama and Chinese players Qi Zhou and Hansen Yang in an exclusive club.
Shaw explained just how dominant those numbers were: “For the sake of understanding how impressive this number is, the second-place finisher in the event averaged 1.9. In six of his seven games, he finished with four or more blocks.”
That margin shows complete dominance, doubling his closest competitor at basketball’s top youth tournament. Yet Shaw still questioned Huan’s upside in his evaluation.
“While Huan’s ceiling might not be as high as others in this cycle, he has an intriguing upside while still falling relatively under the radar,” Shaw wrote.
Shaw has other worries about Huan’s game too. While Huan showed offensive flashes, Shaw noted development needs: “Huan will need to continue adding strength, but he showed some face-up ability and is capable of putting the ball on the floor to create an offensive advantage. He averaged 11.3 points on 55.4 percent shooting in World Cup play.”
Purdue Basketball Recruiting: Matt Painter Offers Georgetown Prep Center
Purdue coach Matt Painter extended an offer to Huan following his World Cup dominance. The Georgetown Prep standout scheduled an official visit for September 5-7. The timing reflects how his international performance caught the attention of major programs.

Painter has offered six centers in the 2026 class, including top-ranked Arafan Diane, showing his aggressive pursuit of big men. Purdue’s track record with international centers, most notably Zach Edey’s rise to National Player of the Year, gives them credibility in Huan’s recruitment.
But Purdue faces plenty of competition. Huan holds additional offers from Alabama, Creighton, Illinois, Mississippi State, and Florida.
Huan’s September visit to Purdue will be worth watching. Painter obviously sees something different than the analysts who question his ceiling, and now it’s up to Huan to decide where he wants to develop his game.
