With the Alabama Crimson Tide due to play Hofstra in a Midwest Region first-round game in the NCAA Men’s Tournament on Friday, the team is dealing with off-the-court issues surrounding junior guard Aden Holloway.
On Monday, the school issued a statement that Holloway is not with the team at this time.
Aden Holloway’s Future With Alabama In Doubt
Holloway was arrested in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Monday and will be facing two felony drug charges.
ESPN College Basketball Insider Jeff Borzello, in a post on X, shared a statement from Alabama regarding Holloway’s situation. “Alabama has released a statement on Aden Holloway, saying he’s been ‘removed from campus pending further investigation,'” Borzello wrote.

According to a statement from Alabama, “The University is aware of the allegations and is working to gather more information. The student has been removed from campus pending further investigation by the UA Office of Student Conduct.”
An ESPN story on Monday offered more information revolving around Holloway.
“Tuscaloosa County police spokesperson Stephanie Taylor said Holloway was arrested Monday morning and transported to the county jail after agents with the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force searched a residence near Alabama’s campus and ‘recovered more than a pound of marijuana, paraphernalia and cash,'” according to ESPN’s story.
Alabama head coach Nate Oats will move forward with a key part of his lineup for now. On Monday night, Oats addressed the Holloway situation on his “Hey Coach” radio show. Mike Rodak, Alabama staff writer for Bama247, posted on X what Oats had to say.
Nate Oats on his “Hey Coach” radio show tonight on Aden Holloway: “Look, we’ve got standards in our program. We’ve got ways we’ve held our guys accountable. We try to keep everything in-house. Obviously some of the situations you can’t. This is one of those. Situation is a little…

“Look, we’ve got standards in our program,” Oats said. “We’ve got ways we’ve held our guys accountable. We try to keep everything in-house. Obviously some of the situations you can’t. This is one of those. Situation is a little different when we found out what was going on this morning — I found out this morning.
“I guess it all went down this morning,” Oats continued. “We had to suspend him pending the investigation by the UA office of student conduct. We’re disappointed in his behavior. With that said, we still love him. He’s still our guy. We’re going to get him the help that he needs. … We’re preparing to play without him this weekend.”
Tuscaloosa police also indicated that Holloway will be charged with first-degree possession of marijuana, not for personal use. That’s a Class C felony. Also, Holloway is charged with failure to affix a tax stamp, a felony. Holloway’s bond was set at $5,000. He was released from jail at 10:45 a.m. CT on Monday.
As if that wasn’t enough for Holloway to deal with at this time, that possession charge can carry a penalty up to 10 years in jail and a fine of $15,000.
The Crimson Tide has won 9 of its last 11 games, and Holloway has played a big role in them. He’s currently the second-leading scorer for Alabama, averaging 16.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game. Holloway is also shooting 48.1% from the floor.
As for shooting from beyond the 3-point arc, Holloway is hitting 44% of his shots from there. Alabama is the No. 4 seed in the Midwest Region. The Crimson Tide will bring the third-ranked offense in the nation into its game against Hofstra.
Holloway is a native of Charlotte, N.C.
