The almost-trade that could have sent Maxx Crosby from the Las Vegas Raiders to the Baltimore Ravens was one of the biggest stories of the 2026 offseason. The deal fell through, which led to questions about his future and health. A former NFL star recently talked with Crosby and said that the All-Pro edge rusher seems more motivated than ever.
Gerald McCoy Reveals Maxx Crosby’s Message After Failed Ravens Trade
Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Gerald McCoy said on “Good Morning Football” that he recently spoke with Crosby about everything that happened this offseason.
McCoy said Crosby sounded very confident about how he will feel physically when the 2026 season starts. NFL Media posted a clip on their X channel with the caption, “Earlier today, @nflnetwork analyst @Geraldini93 appeared on @gmfb to discuss Maxx Crosby.”
It continued with McCoy’s words about Crosby. It read, “Oh yes I’ve talked to Maxx Crosby…You know what Maxx said to me? He said the truth is by training camp I’m going to be 200% ready and this world will get the best version of 98 they’ve ever seen. It’s go time. That is not from me, that is directly from Maxx Crosby.”

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, we now know what the Raiders’ intentions are with Crosby: Nothing. As of now, with the Baltimore deal falling through, the team will retain Crosby for the 2026 season.
“Per a league source, the Raiders are currently telling teams that defensive end Maxx Crosby won’t be traded, in the aftermath of the failed effort to ship him to the Ravens for a pair of first-round picks,” Florio said.
The Ravens were reportedly prepared to offer their first-round picks this year and next to acquire Crosby. But after the agreement was made public, the pass rusher failed his physical four days later, and the Ravens went on to sign former Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson (86.4 PFSN NFL EDGE Impact).
Last season, Crosby ranked second in the PFSN NFL EDGE Impact metrics with a 95.3 grade (trailing only Cleveland Browns superstar Myles Garrett, who posted a 95.6 EDGEi grade). During the previous season, Crosby finished No. 1.
The injury will be a concern, but past injuries have not slowed him down, and the Ravens’ decision to back out of the blockbuster trade has given a player who does not need more motivation an additional chip on his shoulder.
It remains to be seen where Crosby will play next season, but I would guess he will want the Ravens on the schedule to show them that his health is just fine and that they made a mistake.
