Matthew Stafford Gets 100% Real on Relationship With Cooper Kupp Following WR’s $45,000,000 Move to Seahawks

For years, Cooper Kupp and Matthew Stafford’s time together appeared to be on borrowed time. With rumors of Kupp getting traded and Stafford’s future blurrier than a broken camera, most agree it was amazing they were able to stick together as long as they did.

Still, the page has finally turned, and Kupp is now elsewhere. The former Los Angeles Rams wide receiver joined the rival Seattle Seahawks after getting released, signing a three-year, $45 million deal. It created a question of whether Stafford had turned against him over the decision. Stafford recently opened up about how he felt about Kupp after the move.

Matthew Stafford Gives Update on Relationship With Cooper Kupp Following Offseason Split

Speaking on NFL Network’s “Schedule Release ’25” via NFL media, Stafford revealed he has spoken with Kupp since the split. In short, the Rams quarterback asked if he could keep things friendly with the wide receiver.

“Yeah, I’ve been texting with him some, just checking in on him,” Stafford said. “He’s a few miles away in a different colored jersey and all that kind of stuff, but when we get to talking and texting, it’s the same old stuff, just giving each other a hard time and having fun. I did ask him about this, I was like, ‘Am I going to be able to say what’s up to you pregame? What’s the deal?’ He’s like, ‘I’m going to give you a big bear hug.'”

“So I’m excited. Obviously, it’s tough when you’ve played with a guy and had as much success as we’ve had together, and then move on, but you play this game long enough, you understand it’s part of the business, and I think he gets that too. But at the same time, I’ll be happy to see him. Hopefully, he plays great, and we come away with a win. I’m always pulling for him, always pulling for Coop, but always want the Rams to be coming out on top.”

Stafford has been forced to pivot to a new wide receiver room in which Kupp is gone and replaced by former Green Bay Packers star Davante Adams. Adams spent the 2024 season with the New York Jets, earning 854 yards and seven touchdowns.

However, he also spent part of the season with the Las Vegas Raiders, earning 209 yards and a touchdown. In total, he earned 1063 yards and eight touchdowns. In comparison, Kupp earned 710 yards and three touchdowns in 2024.

Rams Face Long Wait for Kupp’s Return to Los Angeles

Some teams won’t wait long to face division rivals in 2025. The Rams, however, will have to wait almost three months to face the Seahawks.

The first of two Seahawks-Rams matchups will take place in Week 11. The game will take place in Los Angeles on Sunday, Nov. 16, at 1:05 p.m. on FOX.

Only at that time will fans learn if Kupp and Stafford will have the bear hug. However, many fans out of the know might be surprised to see that interaction after Kupp chose to join the Seahawks.

Of course, Kupp’s hometown is Yakima, Washington, and he played college football for Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington, just a roughly four-hour drive from Lumen Field, so his reasons for joining the Seahawks go deeper than any potential revenge motivation.

Will the Rams defeat Kupp in their reunion?
