The Green Bay Packers are still looking to get into a groove after a rocky preseason opener. They hope the matchup against the Indianapolis Colts might finally give fans a real look at where the offense is headed. The pressure is on, and everyone wants to see who will step up with quarterback Jordan Love. Is this the weekend the next big thing in Green Bay starts to shine?
Will Matthew Golden Play Against the Indianapolis Colts?
Drafted No. 23 overall out of Texas, rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden has grabbed attention thanks to the way he gets open and how quickly he’s picked up the playbook. Teammates and coaches keep talking about his polish and explosiveness, and his work with Love during training camp has been a highlight. In joint practices with the Colts, Golden added even more fuel to the hype with standout moments.

Golden made his preseason debut last week against the New York Jets, taking 12 snaps and pulling in a third-down reception.
He also drew a pass interference penalty on All-Pro corner Sauce Gardner, showing just how much of a problem he can be for opposing defenses.
After playing sparsely in the preseason opener against the Jets, #Packers WR Matthew Golden reflects on his “first game” and where he feels like he’s at in Green Bay.

Golden was active and expected to play against the Colts, but the team took a cautious approach following his standout performance in joint practices.

With Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs both recovering from injuries, Golden is the Packers’ de facto No. 1 receiver. With the rookie wide receiver in line for a significant role this season, keeping him healthy has become a clear priority for the team.
