With OTAs underway, tensions appear to be rising as several New York Giants engaged in a brawl on the afternoon of Thursday, June 5.
It was a hot day, with temperatures soaring well above 90 degrees. This resulted in players being subjected to the intense heat as they progressed through the practice. Things began to get testy after two hours on the field when linebacker Brian Burns and offensive lineman James Hudson had to be separated and dragged to the sideline.
Giants HC Brian Daboll Ends Practice Following Fight
Just as the vibes appeared to be high amongst the youthful Giants group, chaos ensued.
During a play that caused disarray, Burns and Hudson removed their helmets and began throwing punches. Before the two went any further, teammates intervened.
Kayvon Thibodeaux and Jermaine Eluemunor also engaged in a scuffle of their own, removing their helmets as well. Thibodeaux and Eluemunor’s scrap saw Burns join in once again as he shoved the former before sprinting back to Hudson and tackling him.
Huge fight at #Giants camp. Brian Burns just sprinted in from the sideline. Tackled Hudson to ground in a fight. Kayvon Thibodeaux threw some punches, too.

SNY’s NFL reporter Connor Hughes detailed that while the exchange kicked off with Burns and Hudson on one play, that was simply the tone setter for what was to come.
Burns and Hudson started play before. Both players taken to their sidelines. Jermaine Eluemunor and Kayvon Thibodeaux then got into it next play. Some punches thrown. Sidelines came together. Pat Leonard, a fellow New York sports columnist, dove further into detail about the blows that were exchanged between teammates.
#Giants edge Brian Burns & LT James Hudson III just took their helmets off & squared off to fight, but teammates broke it up
Now Kayvon Thibodeaux punches Jermaine Eluemunor’s helmet off the next snap, Hudson rushes the field, shoves Thib. Burns & Hudson tackle each other to…

With the frenzy reaching no apparent end, head coach Brian Daboll decided it was time to blow the whistle on this OTA workout.

With teams able to decide when video and recording are permitted, this portion of practice did not allow for it. With that said, it will remain unknown if any punches actually landed, how intense it truly was, and how it all unfolded.
Russell Wilson Points to Competitiveness as Fight’s Catalyst
This March, quarterback Russell Wilson signed a one-year deal with the Giants worth $10.5 million. The 36-year-old brings a plethora of knowledge and leadership, and he showcased it by being unfazed by the OTA fight.

As Wilson competes for the QB1 spot, his calm response poses something New York has been missing for years. With an unsteady QB room since the retirement of Eli Manning, all of Wilson, Jameis Winston, Jaxson Dart, and Tommy DeVito look to make a change.
If the Giants’ fight truly was their competitive spirit taking over, it could be a step in the right direction for a team that looked depleted in 2024. New York’s 3-14 record tied for the worst in the NFL, and with no leader on offense, it was evident.
Now, with Wilson in the room already making an indirect impact, 2025 has the potential to be a revitalizing season.
