Maria Taylor Shares Surprise Connection With Mike Macdonald

While Taylor has become a familiar presence at the Super Bowl, the trip marked a first for Macdonald. Hired in 2024, Macdonald engineered a dramatic turnaround in Seattle with his defensive-minded approach, culminating in a Super Bowl 60 win after his unit contained Drake Maye and the Patriots on Sunday night.

Following the victory, Macdonald was greeted on stage by a familiar face in Taylor. The longtime NBC presenter revealed that their connection dated back to high school.

“Just two kids from Centennial High School that made it to the Super Bowl! 🏆,” Taylor captioned a video of the pair sharing a hug during the trophy presentation.

Both Taylor and Macdonald attended Centennial High School in Roswell, Georgia, though they starred in different sports. Macdonald played football and baseball, while Taylor enjoyed an accomplished four-year basketball career.

Their paths crossed again at the University of Georgia, with Taylor graduating from the classes of 2009 and 2013, and Macdonald, a finance major, graduating in 2010 and 2013.

The pair have often delved into their high school memories during interviews, with Taylor even organizing a kind of reunion for Macdonald in 2024. She assembled old photos of the two from their Centennial High School days, prompting Macdonald to admit that Taylor stood out even back then.

“Maria was way cooler and athletic than i was. Just an absolute champion,” he declared.

Taylor also recalled Macdonald’s early dream of becoming the general manager of the Boston Red Sox. Macdonald has said he believed he was better at baseball than football, but that vision changed after he tore his ACL during the last play of the last practice before his final high school game.

Meanwhile, Taylor shared her own ambitious goal from those days. “In 10 years, I will be your first female president,” she once declared. The two shared a long laugh, revisiting the moment, with Macdonald joking that she is close and that the dream is still alive.

The exchange reflected the strong bond between the two, making their reunion on the sport’s biggest stage all the more fitting. For both Taylor and Macdonald, it was a full-circle moment years in the making.
