After a successful college career, Luke McCaffrey, brother of Christian McCaffrey, was drafted with the No. 100 overall pick in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders.
McCaffrey had a terrific performance at the NFL Combine, which significantly helped his draft stock and helped him become a third-round pick. Let’s revisit McCaffrey’s NFL Combine numbers, including his blazing 40-yard dash time.
Luke McCaffrey Impressive NFL Combine Performance
McCaffrey made the move from quarterback to wide receiver while at Rice. At the NFL Combine, he measured in at 6’1 5/8″ and 198 pounds. His height and weight certainly stack up better against his fellow wide receivers than quarterbacks.
McCaffrey made a strong impression beyond his measurables, as he dazzled in the 40-yard dash and excelled in the three-cone drill and 20-yard shuttle.
How Fast Is McCaffrey?
McCaffrey ran a 4.47-second 40-yard dash, which puts him in the 69th percentile in direct comparison to his peers at wide receiver.
Believe it or not, Luke actually ran a faster 40 than his brother, Christian, who ran a 4.48.

While McCaffrey’s 40-yard dash likely impressed NFL general managers, his athleticism remained on display throughout other drills.
McCaffrey had a 6.7-second three-cone drill, which put him in the 87th percentile. His 4.02-second 20-yard shuttle put him in the 91st percentile of that category, as well.
How Old Is McCaffrey?
Born April 2, 2001, McCaffrey turned 23 years old just a couple weeks before the NFL Draft.
Because of his spring birthday, McCaffrey will not turn 24 years old until he gets ready for his second season in the NFL.
Revisiting McCaffrey’s College Career
McCaffrey’s collegiate production looks closer to a high school player who was asked to do a little bit of everything on the offensive side of the football.
McCaffrey’s impact as a passer during the first three years of his college career was mostly pedestrian. His career totals in that department were 88 completions for 921 yards with five TDs and 10 interceptions.
To be fair, McCaffrey was definitely a dual-threat option under center, rushing for 662 yards and six rushing TDs on 130 carries during the first three years of his career.

He improved across the board during his final collegiate season with the Owls in 2023 with 71 receptions for 992 yards and 13 touchdowns while adding an extra 117 yards on the ground.
