Jared Goff’s career transformation reads like a football fairy tale. Since joining the Detroit Lions in 2021, the quarterback has gone from discarded Rams castoff to franchise cornerstone. But this week, Goff celebrated a victory that has nothing to do with touchdowns or playoff races.
What Makes This Moment Special for the Goff Family?
Goff has turned his career around since being traded to the Detroit Lions, along with the Los Angeles Rams’ first-round picks in the 2022 and 2023 NFL Drafts and a third-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, for Matthew Stafford ahead of the 2021 season. He led the organization to back-to-back 10-win seasons for the first time in franchise history, tying a team record with 12 wins in 2023 before shattering that mark with 15 wins in 2024-25.
The four-time Pro Bowler was rewarded with a four-year, $212 million contract extension that includes $170 million in guarantees ahead of the 2024 season. He responded by throwing for 4,629 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions while completing 72.4% of his passes and leading the league’s top-ranked scoring offense.
Beyond the football field, Goff has also seen his life progress since the trade. In 2022, he became engaged to Christen Harper, whom he began dating in 2019, and the couple tied the knot two years later. They recently announced the birth of their first child.

The Goffs announced that they were expecting their first child at the NFL Honors award ceremony in February. On Tuesday, they took to Instagram to announce the birth of their daughter, Romy Isabelle Goff. The couple shared several photos of their newborn daughter, captioning the post:

Goff and Harper initially met on Raya, an exclusive dating app often used by celebrities, while he was still playing for the Rams. She discussed her pregnancy with People ahead of Super Bowl LIX, revealing that she was pregnant during the photoshoot for her 2025 appearance in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
“That was really an interesting time to be shooting in a bikini. Looking back, it was a little challenging, but it was fun because I’m going to have those moments forever. Everybody celebrates when you have that like real bump, but that in-between time when you’re kind of just feeling a little, I don’t know, not so yourself, it’s hard. So, I’m happy I got to celebrate that moment and bring something good out of it.”
The Goffs have just under a week to fully enjoy their time as a family of three. Lions veterans are set to report to training camp on Saturday, July 19. It is unclear if their star quarterback will be given an exemption to show up a few days later following the birth of his first child.
