Lions Star Jameson Williams Ignites Trade Rumors With Cryptic 5-Word Message Ahead of 2025 NFL Draft

Jameson Williams is heading into a tumultuous time in his NFL journey. The wide receiver appears to be aware and playing hardball.

Jameson Williams’ Detroit Lions took a step back in 2024, due in no small part to defensive injuries. With the defense expected to return to full health this offseason, some believe the team could make a deeper playoff run in 2025. That, of course, assumes the offense stays intact. But that now appears to be less of a guarantee.

On Tuesday, April 22, Williams posted a series of cryptic Instagram stories, as shared by MLFootball. The stories featured a black background with white text. In one of the posts, he wrote a message that raised eyebrows about his future in Detroit.

Could Jameson Williams Be on the Move?

“Loyalty b4 any n everything,” Williams posted. The message included two flaming heart emojis.

It’s unclear whether Williams was talking about loyalty to the Lions, to himself, or to his family. But the wide receiver’s contract status is at a turning point. Both Williams and the team are approaching a window where they must decide on his future.

Williams topped 1,000 receiving yards for the first time in his three-year career in 2024, tripling his production from the season prior of just 354 yards and two touchdowns. In his rookie season, he had one catch — that went the distance for a touchdown — for 41 yards.

Williams was drafted 12th overall in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, so the Lions have the option to pick up his fifth-year option. As of now, though, his rookie deal runs through the 2025 season.

With only one franchise tag available and the fifth-year option not yet exercised, the odds continue to rise that Williams could end up elsewhere — and it could happen as soon as draft weekend.

Teams usually pick up the option heading into a player’s fourth season, but the Lions have not yet done so. If Williams does indeed hit the market, interest would likely be high.

According to PFSN’s Offense+ metrics, struggling offenses that could use a wide receiver include the Las Vegas Raiders (29th in offense), the Tennessee Titans (27th), and the Carolina Panthers (24th).

While there’s still an NFL Draft and regular season before Williams could even reach free agency, at least one of those teams is likely to be in the market for receiver help when the time comes.

Williams will have some control over how much interest he can generate. But if he’s still on the Lions’ roster, any buzz he creates would be Detroit’s to act on first.
