Rapper Lil Wayne recently appeared on The Travis Hunter Show with top NFL draft prospect Travis Hunter and voiced his strong support for the two-way star. Lil Wayne claimed that all the NFL teams are “salivating” at the prospect of landing Hunter, who scored 21 total touchdowns in college despite playing full-time at both wide receiver and cornerback.
Lil Wayne Advocates for Travis Hunter in NFL Draft
Lil Wayne appeared on Hunter’s latest podcast episode, published on April 21, and lent his support to the 21-year-old as he navigates the draft process. Hunter’s draft journey will culminate with the NFL Draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on Thursday, April 24.
Hunter is expected to be selected in the top five picks, and Lil Wayne believes every team would be thrilled to have a player of Hunter’s caliber on their roster. He hauled in 15 receiving scores in 2024, adding another touchdown on the ground, plus four interceptions and 11 pass breakups on defense.
“You got 33 teams now, salivating, bro,” Lil Wayne said. “And you know that when you and I, we all know that there are so many people when it comes to this draft, all of these kids would love to hear their name called. All of them.”
Lil Wayne added that he’s hearing whispers that Hunter is the best player in the draft, and when he hears statements like that, it gives him “chills” and “goosebumps.”
The rapper said: “When you watch as much sports as I do and follow sports television, man, when you hear people say something like ‘the best player in this whole draft is Travis Hunter,’ that gives me chills. That gives me goosebumps.”
Hunter humbly responded that he doesn’t let the compliments affect him and instead continues to focus on his work ethic in the gym.
“That doesn’t do anything for me, though. That’s the best part about it,” Hunter said. “As soon as I hear that, I go to the gym. That’s the best part.”
Remember, Hunter joined Lil Wayne’s Young Money APAA Sports Agency in December 2024. The full-service sports agency will manage his contracts moving forward.
‘Fisherman’ Hunter Is Sports Illustrated’s May Cover Star
Hunter is also the star of the May edition of Sports Illustrated as he graces the magazine’s front cover. The Heisman Trophy winner and former Colorado Buffaloes superstar is photographed holding a fish in each hand, with the headline reading: “Why Travis Hunter Is the Biggest Fish [and Fisherman] in the Pond.”
In addition to being a two-way football player, Hunter is an avid fisherman in his leisure time. He’s holding up two largemouth bass on the magazine’s cover. Hunter’s standout performance during the 2024 college football season earned him the Heisman Trophy, the most prestigious individual honor in college football.
