After a sensational year and an even better Combine performance, Cam Skattebo is on everyone's mind, including a legendary NFL scout.

Every year, the NFL Scouting Combine gives fans a new favorite. One name always captures attention, whether it’s a standout performance or a standout personality. This year, that name is Cam Skattebo.

An electric showing at the Combine had fans buzzing about the Arizona State running back. None more so than a legendary voice in NFL circles. Greg Cosell may have fueled the fire by breaking down Skattebo’s tape.

Greg Cosell Goes Gaga Over Top NFL Draft RB Cam Skattebo

Greg Cosell is one of the most respected names in player scouting. He’s been a trusted voice in the draft world for nearly 50 years.

The originator of Monday Night Matchup, Cosell recently broke down the 2025 running back class — one of the deeper groups in this year’s draft. And he had his eyes on Cam Skattebo out of Arizona State.

Speaking on the “Ross Tucker Podcast,” Cosell didn’t hold back: “He’s somewhat tight-hipped. He’s got some stiffness to him. He doesn’t have higher-level athletic traits.”

But even with those limitations, the man behind The Games That Changed the Game is all-in on Skattebo.

“There is absolutely no question that this kid is a temp-setter as a runner. He’s got sustaining traits, he gets hard yards, he’s got a physical profile, he’s so compact, and [he has] mental toughness. He’s got really good contact balance. He’s a finisher.”

From going unrecruited out of Sacramento to becoming a borderline Heisman candidate, Skattebo has shattered expectations. Still, he remains behind higher-profile names like Ashton Jeanty and Omarion Hampton in a loaded draft class.

But Cosell believes a team will take a big swing. “Someone’s gonna look at him and say, ‘He’s the primary back in my system.'”

That said, Cosell isn’t quite ready to make that call himself. “With the right quarterback, the O-line, and the wide receivers, maybe.”

Then came what he felt was the perfect comparison: “Who thought coming out of Notre Dame that Kyren Williams would be a featured running back? And Kyren Williams had 216 rushes this season and didn’t even play in the last game of the season.”

Bottom line? Cosell believes Skattebo brings value. “Skattebo is a really fun watch, and he’s a physical guy. And he weighed about 219. He’s just short, so he looks so compact. But he’s not small.”

It remains to be seen which team gets sold on the skill set the Arizona State alum brings to the table.

New Orleans Saints Predicted to Snag Skattebo in 2025 NFL Draft

In the latest mock draft from PFSN, the New Orleans Saints take him with the 93rd overall pick to pair with Alvin Kamara. As Kamara’s eventual successor, Skattebo could have time to develop in New Orleans.

Ben Rolfe explained the pick: “It is reaching the point where succession planning for Alvin Kamara needs to become more important, and Cam Skattebo is an intriguing option for that role.

“Skattebo is a powerful back who can be a short-yardage hammer but has the agility to excel in open space, both as a runner and receiver.”

His final college season is what sold Rolfe on him. Skattebo totaled 1,711 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns, plus 605 receiving yards and three more scores.

A genuine do-it-all threat, Rolfe summed it up: “His numbers in his final season at Arizona State were eye-opening and demonstrated his versatility.”

With Cosell already sold, it’s only a matter of time before an NFL team takes the plunge on the Sun Devil.
