What Happened to Lamar Jackson? Breaking Down the Ravens QB’s Injury and Week 1 Availability

Why is Lamar Jackson listed as questionable for the highly anticipated Ravens-Bills showdown on Sunday Night Football?

Entering the 2025 NFL season, the Baltimore Ravens are considered one of the best teams in the league and a legitimate Super Bowl contender. This is in large part due to quarterback Lamar Jackson, who is a top MVP candidate after already taking home the award twice.

So when Jackson suffered a foot injury recently, Ravens fans and fantasy managers were understandably worries. What’s the latest on Jackson’s injury, and will he be able to play in Week 1?

What’s the Latest on Lamar Jackson’s Injury?

Jackson left practice early on Aug. 20 after a teammate stepped on his foot. He didn’t practice the rest of that week, and there was initially some uncertainty regarding the Ravens star’s status.

However, it didn’t take long for Jackson to poke fun at this concern.

Jackson has since returned to practice and is expected to suit up in Week 1 when the Ravens take on the Buffalo Bills on Sunday Night Football.

With Jackson healthy, all eyes will be on the two-time MVP to see if he can top last year’s ridiculous production. Jackson was phenomenal in 2024, throwing for career-highs in yards (4,172) and touchdowns (41) while only throwing four interceptions. He also rushed for 915 yards and four scores on the ground, proving he’s still an outstanding dual-threat weapon.

However, Baltimore’s season ended in heartbreak. Needing a two-point conversion to take a late lead against the Bills in the playoffs, Jackson found tight end Mark Andrews wide open in the end zone, but Andrews dropped the pass and their season ended in heartbreak.

Now, it will be interesting to see how the Ravens rebound from that devastating finish and whether this loaded squad can finally hoist the Lombardi Trophy.

Jackson’s Fantasy Outlook

MVP awards aren’t won or lost in the first week of the season, but the Lamar Jackson fans/bettors certainly have this game circled as one that could have meaning far beyond who opens 2025 with a 1-0 record.

These two powerhouses faced each other twice last season, and the volume stats were … well, they weren’t great for Baltimore’s cornerstone. In those contests, he totaled just 31 completions and 12 rush attempts, but he had multiple passing scores and a 15+ yard run in both games.

And that’s the case for Jackson to be QB1, right?

You drafted him to carry your fantasy team weekly, and while this may not be a break-the-slate performance, I don’t think there’s a proper way to slow him for four quarters.
