Kyle McCord is one of the quarterback prospects who has seemingly flown under the radar regarding the upcoming NFL Draft. After leaving Ohio State following the 2023 college football season, McCord took his talents to Syracuse and led the Orange to their first 10-win season since 2018.
Many expected the New York Giants to take a quarterback in this year’s NFL Draft. However, Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston have entered the room. Is the quarterback position still a position of the future they look to address? While it may no longer be in the first round, the pairing of Kyle McCord and the Giants may be the direction the Giants take in the upcoming draft next week.

Kyle McCord Speaks on Workout With the New York Giants
In a conversation with Rich Eisen on “The Rich Eisen Show,” this week, McCord shared a little insight into his private workout with the New York Giants.
When Risen asked what McCord could share about the workout, McCord said, “They definitely put me to the test. They wanna know how well you process things and how quickly can you pick up information. With all the teams, they definitely were the one that tested me the most…”
In this meeting, McCord confirmed that Giants head coach Brian Daboll was in attendance, which looks like an essential workout from McCord’s perspective. He went on to acknowledge that he has met with the Steelers, Saints, and Jets, but based on his statement, it seems the Giants gave him the most thorough test of them all.
McCord also mentioned that it is only when the call comes in on draft night that any player knows for sure where they will end up.
Will McCord Remain in the Empire State?
McCord finished his season for the Orange with 4,779 yards, 34 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, completing 66% of his passes. He had one particularly rough outing against Pittsburgh this past season, where he threw no touchdowns to five interceptions, and one interception the following week.
He never once threw a pick for the remaining five games on the schedule and even finished his season with a five-touchdown performance against Washington State.
He left Ohio State following the 2023 season after head coach Ryan Day was non-committal to McCord being the starting quarterback going forward, despite finishing with an 11-1 record, 3,170 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions. The Buckeyes would move on and win the National Championship this year behind quarterback Will Howard, who transferred in from Kansas State.
PSFN currently has Kyle McCord not getting that call until Round 7 of the 2025 NFL Draft, being selected by the Atlanta Falcons.

If McCord does indeed go to Atlanta, he will be learning behind sophomore quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who has the blessing of being the Falcons’ starting quarterback going forward.
Should draft night pan out differently for McCord, and he goes back to his home area of New Jersey, then the Giants will have a potential quarterback of the future who can be molded not by one but two veterans.
The NFL Draft begins Thursday, April 24 at 8 PM EST in Green Bay, Wisc.
