Kirk Cousins Shows Off Unbelievable Recovery After Devastating Achilles Injury

With free agency around the corner, Kirk Cousins posted two videos on social media showcasing how far along he is in his recovery from a torn Achilles.

Uncertain about where he will land in 2024, soon-to-be free agent QB Kirk Cousins is on the road to recovery almost four full months since suffering a season-ending Achilles injury this past October. How far along is Cousins in his rehab? The Minnesota Vikings quarterback provided an update on social media on Monday morning.

On X (formerly Twitter), Cousins, 35, posted two separate videos of himself dropping back and throwing a football in different directions on Monday morning.

Cousins’ postings of his recovery process during the week of the NFL Scouting Combine makes perfect sense — where team scouts and executives will gather under one roof this week in Indianapolis.

The injury occurred during the fourth quarter in a Week 8 contest this past season against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field — with Cousins going on the injured reserve list two days later.

Prior to that, Cousins had never missed a game because of injury during his 12-year professional career.

With Cousins’ contract set to expire, the former Michigan State standout will officially hit the market on March 13 and is expected to receive a ton of notice across the league should Minnesota and Cousins’ team not strike a long-term extension.

Cousins is not only considered to be the top quarterback to hit free agency, but he is also going to be the best player available on the open market, according to PFN NFL Analyst Dallas Robinson’s top 100 free agent rankings.

Before his 2023 season was cut short due to injury, Cousins was having one of the best campaigns of his career. In eight games, he threw for 2,331 passing yards and 18 touchdowns and was on pace to have his highest QBR (63.2) since 2016.

If the Vikings decide to let Cousins walk, Minnesota will be on the quarterback-needy list in this upcoming April’s draft.

The Vikings sit at No. 11 overall in the opening round and will have the flexibility to move up if teams ahead of them are willing to trade their first-round selection.

The only quarterbacks currently under contract for the Vikings are Nick Mullens and Jaren Hall, and neither are expected to compete for the starting position this upcoming season.

When asked if he would like to remain in Minnesota for the remainder of his playing career, Cousins did not stutter:

“It’s my desire to be a Viking, retire a Viking, and finish my career here.”
