Browns HC Kevin Stefanski Delivers Honest Update on Shedeur Sanders’ Development During Training Camp

As his quest to earn the Cleveland Browns QB1 title continues, Kevin Stefanski reveals the most impressive thing about Shedeur Sanders so far.

The Cleveland Browns continue to face a unique solution going into the 2025 season. While quarterback competitions over the offseason aren’t anything new, four options for the spot are an incredible situation the Browns find themselves in. After picking up Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett in free agency, Cleveland also wanted some younger options on the roster. As a result, they drafted Dillon Gabriel with the 94th overall pick.

However, the truly shocking part of their season came in the fifth round, when, after an egregiously long wait, Shedeur Sanders found his home in the NFL as the Browns drafted him 144th overall. Throughout the summer, it has been a struggle for Sanders to carve a role for himself on the team and in the league. But head coach Kevin Stefanski has already seen a lot to like from the youngster.

What Is Shedeur Sanders’ Most Impressive Quality, According to Kevin Stefanski?

Projected as a first-round pick, Sanders suffered one of the most brutal draft day slides in recent memory, as his misery finally came to an end in the fifth round. From virtually being guaranteed a starting job in the league, Sanders has a four-way competition to win.

Throughout the summer, though, he has worked hard to prove the doubters wrong. He has put together some strong performances through rookie camp, OTAs, and minicamp, and he has continued to be a factor in the proceedings, even as training camp gets underway.

Through the first three days of training camp, his performance has gradually improved, something Stefanski has noted. But for the two-time Coach of the Year, the biggest positive about the Colorado Buffaloes star has been his commitment on the field.

Underdog reported his official comments about the quarterback after the third day of training camp, compiling them on X. “I think Shedeur does a nice job of keeping the main thing the main thing. He’s working very hard in the building, in the meeting room, in the weight room, out here on the field.”

Thanks to his pedigree and the flamboyance he displayed all through college and the pre-draft process, many attitude concerns had popped up about the son of the legendary Deion Sanders. But it seems like those concerns aren’t plaguing him anymore.

“He does a good job of keeping the focus where it needs to be.” Stefanski, however, hasn’t made a decision, at least publicly. That could boost Sanders, as it leaves the door open for him to earn the starting job soon.

Already, former quarterbacks like Dan Orlovsky are urging the Browns to focus on their youth and elevate either Sanders or Gabriel to the QB1 role. Now it will be up to the final days of training camp and preseason to see Stefanski’s direction.
