The 2025 NFL Draft was widely considered one of the best tight end classes in recent memory. Two players went inside the top 15: Colston Loveland to the Bears at No. 10 and Tyler Warren to the Colts at No. 14. While it’s still early, the 2026 tight end class doesn’t appear to match last year’s in top-end talent. With that said, a few tight ends can make a case to go early in the draft, and Oregon’s Kenyon Sadiq has as good a chance as any.
Sadiq may be a relative unknown to casual college football fans, but his talent jumps off the screen. Here’s why he has the skill set to emerge as one of the top prospects in the country and one of this year’s premier breakout candidates.
Kenyon Sadiq Poised For Breakout Season As Oregon Ducks’ Number One Tight End
A highly ranked recruit out of high school, Sadiq was one of the crown jewels of Oregon’s 2023 recruiting class. A three-sport athlete, he played heavy snaps on both sides of the ball. Ultimately, the Ducks saw his upside on offense, where his athleticism could create matchup nightmares.
As a true freshman, Sadiq appeared in all 14 games, recording five catches for 24 yards, a touchdown, and one rushing attempt. His sophomore year, however, marked a turning point. He hauled in 24 receptions for 308 yards and two scores, flashing the traits that made him a highly touted recruit.
While the numbers above may seem underwhelming for a player hoping to be the first TE drafted, it’s important to understand the context for the lack of production. Sadiq was playing behind Terrance Ferguson, who was drafted in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He had to fight for targets with Ferguson, Tez Johnson, Evan Stewart, and Traeshon Holden.
Now with Ferguson, Johnson, and Holden off to the NFL and Stewart out for an extended time with an injury, look for Sadiq as the number one option in the Ducks’ passing game.
Sadiq’s Deep Dive: While Production is Lacking, the Traits are Sky High.
You know a player is talented when he gets you excited with such a small sample size. His ability pops whenever he is on the field, and your eyes naturally gravitate towards him due to their unique skill set. That is Sadiq to a tee.
NFL scouts visited Eugene last fall to evaluate upperclassmen, but many left raving about the underclassman tight end wearing No. 18.
When you turn on the film, Sadiq’s frame and length jump out. He’s rocked up with a muscular build and impressive wingspan. The next thing you notice: this is a rare athlete with elite burst, flexibility, and body control. Take a look at the play below.

On a simple wheel route to the flat, Sadiq uses his athleticism to high-point the football over a defender and score a touchdown. His ability to explode vertically on a dime to avoid the tackler illustrates his rare athleticism and ability to create with the ball in his hands.
Speaking about his ability as a ball carrier, his film shows just how dynamic he is after the catch. Oregon often designs plays just for Sadiq to quickly get the ball in his hands and let him cook upfield.
He has alignment versatility and will often be deployed outside, in the backfield, or inline as a traditional tight end. Whether it was a quick tunnel screen, reverse, or straight handoff, the Ducks knew that good things would happen once Sadiq had the ball in his hands.

The clip above shows his natural vision and instincts. He quickly identifies defenders and navigates to open space. His ability to plant, accelerate vertically, and make defenders miss is rare for a tight end. Sadiq is more of an athlete than a polished route runner at this career stage. He is mainly used on deep overs, quick screens, and bubbles and isn’t asked to run an elaborate route tree. That will change with continued development, and his potential as a receiver is sky high.
An area of his game that is currently very underrated is his ability as a run blocker. Sadiq has excellent body control to contort and work into the frames of the defender while on the move. He then can latch on and displace defenders with impressive knockback power, as evident in the play below.

You can easily see his lower body power and ability to drive the defender back. I appreciate his play temperament and how he plays through the whistle while also looking to punish the defender. This is a tough and physical football player in both game phases.
As it stands, Sadiq is being graded on what he can become rather than what he currently is. He’s a player with all the upside in the world and one that the NFL will certainly covet as the league continues to put a high value on athletes who can do multiple things within the offense. Sadiq is currently my number one tight end, and with a strong season, expect him to hear his name called in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
