After news broke Wednesday that Kenny Golladay was heading for a visit with the New York Giants, what is the latest NFL news and rumors regarding the player many consider to be the top wide receiver on the market right now? Pro Football Network’s Tony Pauline and Trey Wingo discussed the latest surrounding Golladay and the situation in New York on the March 17 episode of Draft Insiders.
Kenny Golladay, Giants meeting Thursday
The free-agent wide receiver market had been slow through the first few days of the week. The news of Kenny Golladay being set to visit with the Giants saw the rumor mill splutter into life Wednesday.
In an offseason where visits are few and far between for teams and free agents, Pauline discussed just why the Giants are bucking that trend and bringing Golladay in for a visit.
“He’s meeting with the Giants tomorrow. And I’m told at this point in time, the Giants are almost desperate to get someone in there in free agency. They lost out on Leonard Floyd, who they desperately wanted to sign because they wanted to make pass rusher a priority in free agency. I was told by somebody close to the organization the feeling is, the team is almost desperate to sign somebody big.
“I’m told that Golladay is going to be in New York tomorrow. He is going to meet with the head coach, Joe Judge. Judge is just going to sit with him and say ‘listen, this is my ship, we do it my way, if you are ok with that we will proceed.’ But Joe Judge wants to get the point across to Kenny Golladay that this is his ship and things are going to be run his way and see what the reaction is before they move forward on potentially signing the contract.”
When the news broke about the visit, a lot of speculation circulated about it being injury-related. However, it appears to be more about Judge making sure Golladay is the right fit for his team.
Joe Judge has stamped his authority on the Giants
Judge does it his way, as he has since arriving in New York. On the show, Wingo touched on how Judge has really taken control in New York.
“I give Joe a lot of credit because he found a way to get the Giants back in the playoff picture late in the season… Joe has not been afraid to say it is my way or the highway and for a guy that has never been a coordinator, was a special teams and wide receiver guy up in New England, he’s not afraid to sort of, bigfoot a lot of people on his way in his first job as a head coach.”
It has certainly been an interesting first year for Judge in New York. It will be interesting to see how the meeting with Golladay plays out on Thursday. If he agrees to Judge’s terms, the Giants will have a potent potential offense. That is exactly what they need as they look to continue evaluating QB Daniel Jones.
Which other teams are in play for Kenny Golladay?
The New York Giants appear to have one foot in the door in terms of adding Golladay.
So far this offseason, the Giants have added speedy receiver John Ross to play alongside Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepard. However, adding Golladay would be a huge boost to the receiving group. If the Giants decide to walk away from the table with Golladay, or Golladay does not feel the Giants are a good fit, where else could we see him playing in 2021?
Could the Miami Dolphins swoop in and sign Kenny Golladay if the Giants do not?
There have been rumors linking Kenny Golladay to the Miami Dolphins throughout the start of the offseason. However, the Dolphins appeared to be slow playing early-window free agency. Although, according to Pauline, the Dolphins could be in play if Golladay does not sign in New York: “If Kenny Golladay gets out of the Giants’ facilities tomorrow without a contract, I would look for the Miami Dolphins to step in and make a play for him.”

It is intriguing that the Dolphins have yet to make a serious push for Golladay. Golladay carried expectations of setting the wide receiver market at around $18-20 million. Consequently, the Dolphins may have been biding their time, waiting for the price to drop somewhat.
The Cincinnati Bengals could be in play for Kenny Golladay
On Wednesday, Dianna Russini reported that the Bengals have made an offer for Kenny Golladay. With A.J. Green having left in free agency, the Bengals are in the market for a No. 1 wide receiver. Although, it appears the Bengals are at least behind the Giants in terms of priority for Golladay. However, with an exciting young QB, the Bengals could be an attractive option for Golladay.
Kenny Golladay met with the Chicago Bears Wednesday
Adam Schefter reported that Kenny Golladay met with the Bears head coach and general managers Wednesday.
