KC Concepcion Opens Up About His Speech Impediment

With a draft full of talent at wide receiver, Concepcion is expected to be drafted late in the first round, according to his PFSN NFL Draft Profile.

During the 2025 season with Texas A&M, he caught 61 receptions for 919 receiving yards, nine receiving touchdowns, and one rushing touchdown. In PFSN’s College Football Wide Receiver Impact Metric, Concepcion ranked as the 19th-best receiver in college football with an impact score of 81.5 and a letter grade of B-.

There’s no shortage of talent from Concepcion, but one concern for him is his speech impediment. For “The Players’ Tribune”, Concepcion wrote the following:

“Dear NFL GMs, by now, you’ve probably heard that I stutter,” Concepcion wrote. “Everyone has. And look, I get it. It’s a good story. I’m not mad at it. And I appreciate the love. But every time I’ve sat down for an interview, that’s where we start, and that’s where we end. The stutter. The stutter. The stutter. My stutter is part of who I am, but it’s not all of who I am. So, I figured … since I’ve got the pen this time, let me tell you the more complete story.”

Following this, Concepcion shows his confidence and talks about his skills and what he’ll bring to the team that drafts him:

“Here’s who I also am: I’m the best receiver in this draft. Period. I run crisp routes. I catch everything thrown anywhere near me. I work my tail off every practice, every drill. I get in and out of my breaks fast. And I will outwork ANYBODY you put in front of me.”

At 5’11” and 196lbs, Concepcion has been praised for his control over change-of-direction and his acceleration. With this, he’s able to build separation, maximize run-after-catch yards, and is a versatile receiver. He’ll make an impact wherever he ends up in the draft.

Finally, Concepcion talks about other challenges he faced as a child, but admits that it’s what made him who he is:

“Off the field, the challenges I’ve faced haven’t just been about having a speech impediment,” he added. “I also grew up with my dad in and out of prison. And when I was a kid, there were a lot of difficult, lean times when my family didn’t have very much. I had to grow up fast.”

“I had responsibilities and worries most kids my age didn’t have,” Concepcion continued. “I’ve faced adversity my entire life, basically. I wouldn’t change any of it, though. Because all of that has built character and compassion and fearlessness within me. It’s made me into someone I’m genuinely proud to be. Someone who doesn’t quit. Ever”

Across his college career (which also included NC State from 2023-2024), Concepcion hauled in 185 receptions for 2,218 receiving yards, 25 receiving touchdowns, 431 rushing yards, and 3 rushing touchdowns.

Concepcion would meet the needs of many teams, including the Buffalo Bills, San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins, and others. His speech impediment and background don’t define who he is, but they explain how they propelled him into the position he’s in today.
