‘Definitely Being Aggressive’ — Chiefs Rumored To Be Preparing for Bold Move During NFL Draft

The Kansas City Chiefs are rumored to be exploring an aggressive first-round trade to raise the ceiling of their defense in 2026.

The rumor mill is churning at a high speed between insiders and team officials in attendance at the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh. And one team that keeps popping up in those conversations is the Kansas City Chiefs. The expectation around the league is that they could be one of the most aggressive teams on the phone once the first round gets underway.

That approach would not be surprising. The Chiefs have built a reputation under general manager Brett Veach for being willing to move up or down the board if there is a player they believe can make an immediate impact. With a roster still in a championship window, the focus is less about volume and more about landing difference-makers.

Chiefs Linked to Bold NFL Draft Move for Top EDGE Talent

“I’m hearing that the Chiefs are definitely being aggressive,” said Aditi Kinkhabwala when asked what teams could look to move up in Round 1. “I talked to a couple people this morning who said they have received phone calls from the Chiefs.”

But just who would the Chiefs move up for? EDGE stands out as the most logical target given the team’s needs. The Chiefs have solid pieces, but adding a high-end pass rusher would raise the ceiling of the entire defense.

“Would they only move for a pass rusher? Because there really are only two potentially excellent pass rushers in Arvell Reese and David Bailey, and is Reuben Bain [Jr.], a third excellent pass rusher, or are the Chiefs sort of turned off by this entire conversation over his arm length? It’s been a long, long, long time since someone has been drafted in the first round, with that wingspan, with that arm length.”

At 6-foot-2 and 275 pounds with sub-31-inch arms, he’s not a prototype, but he compensates with strength, burst, flexibility, and refined rushing nuance.

If a premium position player slips into a range they can attack, Kansas City will explore every option to go get him.

The names mentioned by Kinkhabwala highlight the tier Kansas City may be eyeing. Arvell Reese and David Bailey are widely viewed as top-end talents at the position, but the Chiefs would have to pay a high price to get them.

Why Reuben Bain Jr. Remains Intriguing for Kansas City Despite Concerns

“There are plenty of GMs I’ve talked to that have said he hasn’t had any difficulty separating because of how strong he is, that he can mitigate that arm length.”

That brings the conversation to Reuben Bain Jr., one of the more polarizing EDGE prospects in this class. While some teams have questioned his measurables, the production and tape tell a different story.

Bain has been disruptive since his freshman season, when he posted 7.5 sacks and 13 tackles for loss. After dealing with a calf injury as a sophomore, he bounced back in 2025 with 8.5 sacks, 13 TFLs, and an 82.7 PFSN EDGE Impact Score. At 275 pounds, he brings a compact, powerful frame that allows him to win in multiple ways.

His game is built on strength and leverage. Bain can overwhelm tackles with raw power, collapse pockets, and hold up consistently against the run. There is also more nuance to his game than he gets credit for, including a deeper pass-rush arsenal and the flexibility to finish plays.

For a team like Kansas City, that versatility matters. Whether lining up outside or kicking inside on passing downs, Bain offers the kind of disruptive presence that can change games.

If the Chiefs do make a move on draft night, EDGE feels like the position to watch. And if the calls being reported turn into action, Kansas City shifts the entire landscape of the first round.
