The Kansas City Chiefs won the team's third Super Bowl in four seasons in February. Here's how the team looks to retool and more.

The Kansas City Chiefs traded cornerback L’Jarius Sneed to the Tennessee Titans for a 2025 third-round pick and a swap of 2024 seventh-round selections.

Here’s how his trade could allow the Chiefs to fill in other holes on the team with more cap space.

GM Brett Veach Has Plan To Fill Gap Left By L’Jarius Sneed Trade

The Athletic’s Nate Taylor spoke with team owner Clark Hunt before the Super Bowl. Hunt was enamored with general manager Brett Veach’s ability to reorganize the team following multiple Super Bowl victories. That was before winning a third last month.

“Brett has done a fantastic job,” team owner Clark Hunt said before the Super Bowl. “It’s easy to think back to Super Bowl LIV. We have (only) seven or eight players on the active roster from that game, which just shows you how quickly things change in the NFL. A lot of that is Brett managing the salary cap and the implications of having a star quarterback.

“The good news is Patrick (Mahomes) is more about winning than making as much money as he possibly can. He has a special relationship with Brett, too, which is very helpful to strike that balance.”

The Chiefs have over $6.5 million in cap space after trading Sneed, per Over The Cap. Kansas City also has seven selections in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Predicting NFL’s 2024 Christmas Day Games

Pro Football Network’s Nick Faria predicted several potential Christmas Day matchups. This upcoming Christmas is on a Wednesday and it will mark only the third time that the NFL has played that day.

One game that he predicted would come about is a Super Bowl LVIII rematch between the Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers. Kansas City won the last battle 25-22 and would be set to take on San Francisco at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

“It’s safe to assume that a rematch of Super Bowl 58 will NOT be played on a Wednesday, but will be ticketed as a Sunday night battle,” Faria wrote. “But that doesn’t mean the NFL may not want more of a heavyweight showdown on a holiday that has drawn big ratings for them in the past.

“Last year’s Super Bowl brought the most views to the league than any other game before. It could be the driving force to allowing them to have a rematch go on during Christmas Day.”

The NFL is planning on having a Christmas Day doubleheader. This year’s schedule will be released on May 11.

Former Kansas City Chiefs Cheerleader Krystal ‘Krissy’ Anderson Dies

Krystal “Krissy” Anderson, 40, a former Chiefs cheerleader and yoga instructor, died after she gave birth to her daughter Charlotte Willow Anderson. The Chiefs confirmed her death in an Instagram post.

“We are deeply saddened by the recent passing of CC alum Krystal,” the team announced. “Krissy cheered with us for over 100 games from 2006-2011 and 2013-2016. During that time, she attended the Pro Bowl as the Chiefs representative in 2015, served as a captain of her team, cheered during the London game, and visited our troops around the world, including in Iraq, Kuwait, and throughout the United States.”

Tavia Hunt, who is Chiefs chairman and CEO Clark Hunt’s wife, commented, too.

“A profound loss for our team, organization, and anyone who ever crossed her path. We love & miss you Krissy. Hug Lamar & Norma for us.”

Anderson, who was Black, is one of many African American women who have died giving birth in the United States. The maternal death rate of Black women is nearly triple that of white women as of 2021 with 69.9 per 100,000 live births, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Kansas City Chiefs Owner Clark Hunt Addresses F-Minus Facility Grade

Hunt spoke to The Athletic’s Nate Taylor and Kalyn Kahler at the NFL Owners Meetings and explained that he’d invest in his team’s facilities this upcoming season.

“We are making some pretty significant investments in the training facility this year, and we’ll continue to do that,” Hunt said. “We’ve outgrown that building in a number of ways.”

Ground was broken at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium 55 years ago with the project being completed on Aug. 12, 1972. The stadium underwent renovations in 1991, 1994, and 2007-2010 with costs of the latter renovations set at $375 million.
