NFL training camps are kicking off across the league, and several quality free agents are still looking for new teams. Squads with Super Bowl aspirations typically have an easier time signing veterans looking to ring chase before hanging up their cleats.
PFSN named one four-time second-team All-Pro safety as a potential target for three Super Bowl contenders.
Justin Simmons Could Be the Final Piece for Chiefs, Bills, or Eagles Defenses
According to ESPN BET, the Philadelphia Eagles (+300), Buffalo Bills (+325), and Kansas City Chiefs (+350) have short odds of winning their respective conferences. As three of the NFL’s final four last year, it makes sense that all three teams would be favorites to reach Super Bowl 60.
Their quarterbacks drive these three teams, but each could use help in their respective secondaries. PFSN’s Jacob Infante recently named long-time Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons as a potential target for the three contending teams.
Simmons is entering his ninth NFL season, and could be ring chasing as he’s yet to reach the playoffs.
Infante wrote, “After eight seasons with the Broncos, Justin Simmons spent 2024 with the Falcons, finishing with 62 tackles and two interceptions in 16 games. It wasn’t the All-Pro level of play he’s displayed in recent years, but he was still a serviceable starter on the back end.
As a four-time All-Pro and a two-time Pro Bowler, Simmons may want to look for a chance to win a Super Bowl in 2025. Philadelphia, Kansas City, and Buffalo are all perennial Super Bowl contenders, where he could push for a starting job. Though not at the same level, Carolina could give Simmons a good opportunity to start, as well.”
Simmons was a third-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. He had the misfortune of joining the Broncos as their eight-year playoff drought was starting, and leaving just as the drought ended. Despite the lack of team success, Simmons has been a consistent producer and led the league with six interceptions in just 12 games in 2022.
Buffalo has been looking for stability at safety since Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer departed. Simmons could push for a starting role with the Bills, as he’d be competing with projected starters Cole Bishop and Taylor Rapp.
“It breaks every bone in my body to say it… but it would be hard to turn down”

Kansas City has a proven safety in Bryan Cook, but second-year Jaden Hicks is projected to start after Justin Reid signed with the New Orleans Saints in free agency. Steve Spagnuolo is one of the more creative defensive play callers in the league, and would likely find a home for Simmons.
The Eagles are in a similar situation as they have a Super Bowl starter at one safety in Reed Blankenship.
Sydney Brown projected to start opposite him after Philadelphia surprisingly traded C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans this offseason. Simmons could push for a starting role, but the Eagles could roll with their guys after selecting Andrew Mukuba in the second round.
Simmons still has enough in the tank to contribute to a Super Bowl Contender. Although his body would benefit from missing part of training camp, he likely wants to find a team sooner rather than later.
