What Did Justin Fields Say About Woody Johnson’s Critique?

Justin Fields talked about the matter, as relayed by NFL reporter Connor Hughes on Wednesday:

“Justin Fields said he doesn’t really have a relationship with Woody Johnson. He met him for the first time before one of the #Jets games. He won’t search him out, doesn’t have plans to talk to him about what he said.”

Meanwhile, Woody Johnson has questioned the team’s offense, saying:

“If we can just complete a pass, it would look good. … The offense is just not clicking, and you can’t run the ball if you can’t pass the ball. That’s football 101.”

He also referenced to Justin Field’s performance:

“It’s hard when you have a quarterback with a rating that he’s got. I mean, he has ability, but something just is not jiving. … You have to play consistently at that position, and that’s what we’re going to try to do for the remainder of the season.”

Fields has started six games this season, completing 603.7% of his passes for 845 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions. He also added 257 rushing yards and three scores on the ground. However, his Total QBR of 32.1 ranks near the bottom of the league.

Fields signed a two-year, $40 million deal with the Jets in the offseason, including $30 million in guaranteed money.

Coach Aaron Glenn has supported the quarterback throughout the season, even after the Week 6 loss to the Denver Broncos, when Fields finished with minus-10 net passing yards. But Glenn pulled him at halftime during Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers, with the Jets trailing 10-3. Fields completed 6 of 12 passes for 46 yards and was sacked three times.

Backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor played the second half but threw two interceptions. The Jets lost the game 13-6. After the game, Glenn said he was considering a quarterback change and would discuss it with people inside and outside the team before making a decision.

Taylor might be an option. He started one game this season when Fields was out with a concussion in Week 3. In over seven quarters of play, he has completed 43 of 69 passes for 379 yards, with three touchdowns and three interceptions.
