Julian Neal’s NFL Draft Potential
Julian Neal has been a riser thus far in the 2025 college football campaign, and could field early-round interest from NFL teams pending his athletic testing. The senior transfer from Fresno State has already tied his career high with interceptions (2) and achieved a career-high pass deflections figure (6) with five games left to play. The forced incompletions only tell part of the tale, however: Neal is a complete two-phase player.
At 6’2″, 208 pounds, Neal has the size, length, and lean mass NFL teams look for on the boundary, and he passes the desired athletic threshold as well. He might not have quantifiably elite burst or speed, but he’s still a compelling size-speed CB whose superpower is his exceptional short-area quickness, twitch, reactive athleticism, and mirror-motor ability at his size. Even at 6’2″, Neal is a sudden and springy lateral mover whose quick recalibration aids him in all situations.
Despite his clear playmaking ability, Neal’s best trait might be his utility in run support. He hasn’t missed a single tackle in 2025 — a byproduct of his ultra-consistent tackling technique, angle IQ, and ability to break down and recalibrate his base at a moment’s notice with his short-area energy. That same short-area quickness also enables him to quickly adjust his base when engaging run blocks. He’s physical, but also knows how to apply that physicality to control the boundary and make stops.
Neal’s physical foundation and support ability grants him a high floor, but the key to reaching his ceiling will be refining his technique. He can match and stay square in soft-shoe press, as well as pedal and work in side-saddle, but he too often opens the gate prematurely by drifting laterally in press, and his plant-and-drive footwork can be more consistent overtop breaks in off-man and zone. If he can show progression with his technique, top 50 capital is on the table.
CFB Week 9 Update
Arkansas lost against Auburn in Week 9, but Neal was a bright spot on the defensive side of the ball. According to PFF, through 28 coverage snaps, he was targeted just once, on an incomplete deep pass. Auburn didn’t seem eager to test Neal’s side of the field in either phase, and while they were able to isolate him out of the picture on plays, Neal himself delivered on what Arkansas asked of him.
Where Is Neal Being Selected Most Often in the PFSN Mock Draft Simulator?
Neal currently holds the No. 61 overall rank among prospects, positioning him as a Day 2 prospect. His most recent Average Draft Position (ADP) of 64.1 as of October 27 reflects that he is typically being selected on Day 2 or early Day 3.
This small gap between rank and ADP suggests he’s consistently valued among evaluators, even amid fluctuations in player evaluations at this stage of the draft cycle.
Users controlling the Green Bay Packers have been the team that selected Neal the most frequently over the past week, accounting for 2.4% of their picks across all seven rounds.
