It wasn’t that long ago that New England Patriots WR JuJu Smith-Schuster was widely regarded as the WR1 overall in dynasty rankings after a productive season alongside former WR Antonio Brown.
Fast forward several seasons, and Smith-Schuster’s production has fallen off a cliff. Is there hope that he can rebound to being a viable fantasy starter? Is it time to completely move on in dynasty fantasy football?
JuJu Smith-Schuster’s Dynasty Outlook
Back in 2018, Smith-Schuster put up dominant numbers that led to a WR8 overall fantasy finish. Subsequently, he was a hot commodity in dynasty that offseason.
With QB Ben Roethlisberger, alongside Brown, the second-year wideout saw 166 targets that he turned into 111 receptions for 1,426 yards and seven touchdowns. Unfortunately, JuJu’s production tailed off the season immediately after, and it has yet to rebound anywhere close since that point.
In the five seasons since 2018, Smith-Schuster has yet to cross over 1,000 receiving yards again. He’s totaled just 13 touchdowns over that time frame.
Injuries have certainly played a part in JuJu’s fall from grace, but it seems as though the best days are behind the talented receiver. Even after a productive year in Kansas City in 2022, in which Smith-Schuster and his camp parlayed into a three-year contract in free agency, his dynasty ranking didn’t move all that much.
He’s tied to New England for the foreseeable future — JuJu’s slated to hit free agency again in 2026 — and the Patriots are going through a major organizational overhaul this offseason.
The only hope for Smith-Schuster to bounce back and be a viable Flex option again is if New England invests in one of the highly-anticipated QB prospects in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Players like LSU QB Jayden Daniels or North Carolina QB Drake Maye could potentially be there for the Patriots at No. 3, which would be a massive upgrade over Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe.

Smith-Schuster is at absolute rock bottom right now in the dynasty rankings, so there should seemingly be nowhere to go but up, right?
If you’re in a deep dynasty league, he’s worth stashing due to the possibility of a QB upgrade coming … otherwise, things are looking bleak for the now 28-year-old target.

Should You Trade Smith-Schuster in Dynasty?
Are you considering trading Smith-Schuster? Our PFN Trade Analyzer allows you to find the best trades to make in seconds!
If you’ve held onto Smith-Schuster this entire time, you’re most likely playing in an incredibly deep dynasty league. He’s done next to nothing over the past several seasons, and he’s far from reliable with his injury history, which means that he’s simply taking up space on your bench.
No one is going to go out and trade for JuJu at this point in his career. If you’re in a shallower league and there are better options on the waiver wire for you to go after, he can be let go of and simply monitored to see if New England upgrades at QB.

If you’re looking to build out some of your dynasty depth, Smith-Schuster is a fine option to go after for a 2025 fourth-round rookie pick. If he gets a solid QB prospect — or New England finds a solid veteran in free agency this offseason — we could see JuJu’s value rise.
Otherwise, his best days are most likely behind him, and he can sit out there on your league’s waiver wire (even in dynasty) without anyone truly questioning whether or not he should be a priority pickup.
