Josh Allen Injury Update: Latest on Bills QB After Exiting Week 2 Game vs. Jets

Following up on an incredible Week 1 performance, reigning MVP Josh Allen gave the Buffalo Bills a major injury scare in the first quarter.

In one snap, the future of the Buffalo Bills fell into serious jeopardy. After winning MVP and making it to the AFC Championship Game last season, the Bills were hoping to finally take that next step forward. A historic victory in Week 1 seemed to ignite their intentions for the same.

However, in Week 2 against the New York Jets, they got a major injury scare courtesy of their superstar quarterback and reigning MVP, Josh Allen

What Happened to Josh Allen?

It seemed like Buffalo was ready to carry on from its electric start a week ago. While he had just 14 yards through the air while completing three of his seven passing attempts, he was making a major difference with his legs.

Through two carries, he had already compiled 40 yards, and the Bills were in cruise control with a 10-point lead. On a 2nd & 7 attempt, Allen went for his second run and was tackled from behind immediately at the line of scrimmage.

Immediately signalling for a substitution, he was replaced by Mitch Trubisky. However, the scare didn’t turn out to be a major worry for Buffalo, at least for the time being. Soon after, Allen was back in the game as the second quarter got underway.

The issue, as it turned out, was an injury to the nose. As James Palmer of The Athletic reported, Allen had to rush to the sidelines to take care of the injury that had him gushing blood. He wrote on X, “Josh Allen just ran to the sideline very quickly after the play. Allen’s nose was gushing blood as he was getting looked at.”

Entering Week 2, the Buffalo Bills had a 90.5% chance of making the NFL playoffs and an 81.5% chance of winning the division. Those numbers would change dramatically if Allen were to miss significant time.

After their Week 1 win, the Bills were the top team in the PFSN Power Rankings, but with Mitch Trubisky under center, they would be closer to the middle of the pack, if not a bottom-10 team.

Allen missing time would open up the AFC East for the Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, and New York Jets to all have a shot. It would also significantly change the shape of the AFC playoffs, with the Bills entering Week 2 as the favorites to be the #1 seed in the AFC.

Allen’s Fantasy Impact

It goes without saying Allen missing any time would be an unmitigated disaster for the entire Bills’ offense. Mitch Trubisky is a reasonably competent backup, but Allen is what makes this offense go.

For as long as Allen is out, the Bills will lean on James Cook and the running game. It would be an immediate downgrade for Khalil Shakir, Joshua Palmer, and the entire passing attack. Shakir would go from a weekly WR3/Flex play to bench fodder. Palmer would be completely unstartable.
