Jeremiyah Love is considered by many around the league to be the best running back in the 2026 NFL Draft, as well as one of the top overall prospects. Several rumors have suggested that the Tennessee Titans could be targeting him this year. ESPN’s Jordan Reid explained why he doesn’t believe he will be their pick.
Jordan Reid Opposes 2026 NFL Draft Rumors Predicting Jeremiyah Love Titans
The Titans are currently going through a rebuild and have the luxury of owning the fourth overall pick in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft. This will give them an opportunity to select one of the top overall prospects.
Some have suggested targeting Love to give them an elite offensive weapon, but Reid thinks they will go in a different direction. He described how their recent offseason changes are likely to influence where they go with the pick.
“Love is my number one prospect in this class, but I just don’t see it happening. General manager Mike Borgonzi joined Tennessee after 16 seasons in Kansas City, where the Chiefs always valued premium positions early. Don’t be surprised to see another defensive player added here for new coach Robert Saleh,” stated Reid.
The Titans made major adjustments to their leadership structure during the 2026 offseason, including hiring Saleh as their new head coach and Borgonzi as their new general manager. Reid believes that this combination is more likely to result in them taking a defensive player, or one in another premium position.
It has long been debated how important an elite running back can be for a growing offense, but most don’t consider them a premium position; rather, they’re seen as a luxury pick or finishing piece for a relatively complete roster. While Love is undoubtedly one of the best prospects this year, Tennessee may be better off going elsewhere amid their rebuild, especially considering they already have Tony Pollard and Tyjae Spears.

An alternate approach to a rebuild is simply to pick the best player available to maximize talent on a relatively weak roster. Love is an ideal choice for any team that follows this philosophy. He finished fourth and 16th among running backs in PFSN’s Impact Rankings in his past two seasons with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He also ranks fourth overall on PFSN’s Big Board, so he is right within the Titans’ range if they use this strategy.
