‘He Looks Like a Stud’ — Jordan Love Breaks Silence On the Packers Rookie Who Has Impressed Him Early

Packers quarterback Jordan Love is raving about one of Green Bay's promising young rookies, describing him as a "stud" who "looks very polished."

Mark Murphy delivered on every Green Bay Packers fan’s dream when he announced that the team was taking wide receiver Matthew Golden in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft — the first time the organization used a first-rounder on a wideout since 2002 when they chose Javon Walker. Now, Packers quarterback Jordan Love broke his silence about the rookie playmaker, and he’s clearly excited about Golden in 2025 and beyond.

Jordan Love Fully Supports Rookie WR Matthew Golden

Golden signed his rookie contract with the Packers — a four, year, $17.58 million deal. That already made him the highest-paid receiver on the Packers, and now all eyes will be on the rookie to see if he can be the most productive WR of the bunch.

In Love’s first comments about Golden since the 2025 NFL Draft, the Packers QB raved about his new offensive weapon.

“Yeah, I mean, he’s a great dude,” Love stated. “I’m excited to see just his potential on the football field. Just the start we’ve had… he looks like a stud, looks like a very polished receiver. So, I’m excited to see just how far he can take it.”

The Packers have one of the youngest wide receiver rooms in the entire NFL. Golden is 21 years old but will turn 22 before the start of the season, joining Jayden Reed (25), Romeo Doubs (25), Dontayvion Wicks (23), Christian Watson (26), Savion Williams (23), Bo Melton (26), and Mecole Hardman (27).

Green Bay has a young roster overall. In 2024, they had the youngest team in the league with an average age of 24.96 years old. At the moment, the only players age-30 or older on Green Bay’s roster are kicker Brandon McManus and long snapper Matt Orzech. While they have youth on their side, they certainly lack experience.

In college, Golden played for Houston and Texas, leading the SEC last season with nine receiving touchdowns. He averaged an incredible 17 yards per catch one season ago, a career best for the 21-year-old. With Watson recovering from a torn ACL, expect Golden to become Love’s top deep threat right away.

If Golden is able to stay healthy, he should immediately become a huge part of this Packers’ offense. The front office and head coach Matt LaFleur clearly saw something special in Golden if they were willing to break from 20+ years of tradition and use a first-round pick on the speedster. Now, with Love already excited about his new toy, the sky is the limit for this duo and Green Bay’s offense as a whole.
