The Green Bay Packers, who many expected to be a Super Bowl contender this season, needed to get back on track against the New York Giants. Thankfully, facing a team without its starting quarterback, running back, or top-two wide receivers seemed like a perfect recipe to get going.
However, on the back of two consecutive losses, things took a brutal turn for the Packers, as Jordan Love went down with an injury in the first quarter itself.
What Happened to Jordan Love?
A slow first quarter for Green Bay paved the way for the Giants to capitalize and put up seven quick points on the board with Jameis Winston conducting the show. Unfortunately for Matt LaFleur and company, their opening two drives left a lot to be desired.
Then, things took a turn for the worse when Love, on the second drive of the game for the Packers, went down with a shoulder injury. As Ian Rapoport confirmed, “After taking a hard shot to the left shoulder, Jordan Love is now in the locker room. Malik Willis is in for the #Packers.”
In his place, Malik Willis took over under center. And led the Packers all the way into the end zone for a touchdown of their own. Soon after, Adam Schefter confirmed that the Packers’ QB1 was questionable to return to the game.
Even though he went back to the locker room with the injury, Love was able to return to the field in the second quarter, as the Packers trailed 7-6. After his return, the offense stabilized, at least to some extent, for Green Bay.
They added another touchdown to the total, but New York was able to answer back, going into halftime with the scores tied at 13 apiece. Love, on his end, had 75 passing yards while completing less than 50% of his 13 passing attempts.
Fantasy Outlook After Love’s Injury
Love is on a two-game no-touchdown streak as he performs like one of the worst quarterbacks in football. It’s legitimately fair to question if the Packers offense wouldn’t be better off with Willis under center.
With that said, Willis would run a much more run-heavy offense, which would be bad news for Romeo Doubs and the pass catchers. If Love has to miss time, no one on the Packers would be startable in fantasy outside of Josh Jacobs.
