Dallas Cowboys backup quarterback Joe Milton is making headlines this week. However, it has little to do with the team’s upcoming Week 7 game against the Commanders. While Milton has thrown just five passes for 41 yards this season behind Dak Prescott, who leads the NFL’s top-ranked offense, a recent life-changing moment gives us all a new perspective on the man with the cannon for an arm.
What Is Fueling Joe Milton’s Journey?
Joe Milton shared a heartfelt Instagram post introducing his newborn daughter to the world and offering a touching look at the man behind the pads.
Alongside photos from a pregnancy shoot and the first glimpse of his baby girl with his partner, Destiny, Milton wrote: “This was one of the best of moments of my LIFE…… To my love Destiny you did amazing job you’re a very strong amazing women and I know you’ll be a perfect mother through it all. I love you both 💚🥺”
This personal milestone is the latest chapter in the 25-year-old’s life. Having been traded from the New England Patriots on April 3 for a fifth-round pick, Milton is now in his first full year in Dallas. His path began when scouts initially underestimated the Tennessee product’s readiness, even while marveling at his freakish arm talent.
That talent includes a casual 85-yard throw in practice and a 61.7 mph rocket he unleashed during his NFL debut in Week 18 of the 2024 season.
While he didn’t see much action with New England last year, a 23–16 win over Buffalo became a career-defining moment. “After the Buffalo game, I was like, it’s fun,” Milton said. “I feel like I can keep doing this. I feel like there is more that I need to let out. I was just having fun. It’s probably one of the best days of my life.”
His workload with the Cowboys remains light, with only one appearance, five passes, and 41 yards this season. However, his preparation stays intense thanks to a unique study method. Using poker chips to represent player positions, Milton has Destiny call out plays while he moves the pieces to visualize formations.
That dedication has not gone unnoticed. Quarterbacks coach Brian Schottenheimer calls Milton’s impact in the meeting room awesome and praises his chemistry with Prescott and fellow QB Will Grier.
Be it his record-breaking arm or growing family, Joe Milton’s journey is about more than just chasing snaps. It’s about staying ready whenever the next best day arrives.
