Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy is out with a high ankle sprain. Still, he is making the most of his recovery time at home, soaking up every moment with his fiancée, Katya Kuropas, and their newborn son, Rome Micah McCarthy.
Which Picture of Rome Did J.J. McCarthy’s Fiancée Katya Share?
On Thursday, Katya shared an adorable Instagram photo of their baby boy, capturing Rome’s grumpy expression.
“I’m in trouble with this face,” she captioned.

The post comes two weeks after McCarthy and Kuropas celebrated seven years together. They first met as teenagers at Nazareth Academy in La Grange Park, Illinois, started dating in October 2018 and got engaged in January 2024.
Kuropas hinted that their wedding day is fast approaching, as she wrote on Instagram:
“7 years, 2 dogs and 1 baby later & I love you more than I did when we were 15🫶🏽 happy anniversary love , our last one before we get married!!!😆”

While McCarthy continues to rehab his ankle injury, which has kept him out since Week 2, Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell implied that they are being cautious with his recovery to ensure he is fully healthy.
“We’re all kind of encouraged about where he’s at, and the progress he’s making, but he’s just not there,” O’Connell said on Tuesday.
When asked what is preventing the quarterback from returning, O’Connell said:
“I feel really good about the work we’ve done on the foundation of his fundamentals,” O’Connell added. “That’s been pretty evident through the work that he’s done and really his commitment to doing that.
“It’s really just about, ‘Hey, there’s maybe a guy gets edged and I don’t really know the movement I’m going to have to make.’ That’s where he still feels it and if he doesn’t have the ability to do that pain-free, we obviously risk setting him back, which would be very, very unfortunate with the time lost already.”
McCarthy is expected to serve as an emergency third quarterback in Week 8 against the LA Chargers, with hopes of returning to the field for the Nov. 2 matchup against the Detroit Lions.
