New York Jets vs. Indianapolis Colts prediction and odds | Week 9

  • Spread: Colts -10.5
  • Moneyline: Colts -550, Jets +400
  • Over/Under: 47
  • Odds from DraftKings Sportsbook

Against an impressive Cincinnati defense in Week 8, White completed over 80% of his passes for 405 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions — both of which hit his target’s hands and bounced into the air. Yet, just one week prior against the Patriots, White completed 62.5% of his throws for 202 yards, 1 TD, and 2 INTs — those were his fault.

So, which White is the real one? I’m betting on the latter. That is not to disrespect White. But there is a reason he played collegiate ball at Western Kentucky, was a fifth-round pick in 2018, and hasn’t seen any meaningful snaps until this season.

The Bengals game was just the Jets catching a top team asleep at the wheel. They will return to their poor play against the Colts and remind everyone why they are vying for a top-five pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Even with their offensive onslaught against Cincinnati, New York averages the third-fewest points per game (16.9) while allowing the third-most (29.4)

The Colts are not out of the playoff race

Despite being 3-5 and dropping both contests against the division-leading Titans, the Colts are not out of the AFC Playoff picture — or the AFC South race, for that matter. Tennessee is 6-2 and just received the devastating news that star RB Derrick “King” Henry is likely out for the season with a foot injury.

That especially hurts as Ryan Tannehill, Julio Jones, and to a lesser degree, A.J. Brown have not found their groove in the passing game. As Lloyd Christmas said in Dumb and Dumber, “So you’re telling me there’s a chance?” Yes, Indy, there’s still a chance. But you have to take care of business Thursday night.

Carson Wentz and the offense have quietly played well outside of bone-headed mistakes. Wentz has thrown for just under 2,000 yards and 14 scores against 3 picks in eight games with the Colts. Making his numbers more impressive, Wentz, the Colts’ offensive line, and their weapons have all dealt with injuries this year.

Nevertheless, they are still averaging 25 points and 365.9 yards per game, middle-of-the-pack numbers. I haven’t even touched on Jonathan Taylor’s recent dominance (scored at least 1 TD in the last five weeks and has rushed for 100+ yards in three) or Michael Pittman Jr.’s breakout campaign (45 receptions, 594 yards, 4 TDs).

Jets vs. Colts prediction

Let’s wind things down with some trends. The Jets haven’t won on the road this year, while the Colts are only 1-3 at home. New York is 2-5 against the spread, with Indianapolis 5-3. The over has hit in each of the Jets’ last four games after starting the season with three straight unders.

In the end, Indy’s pass rush overwhelms White and Co., and the offense pummels New York’s valiant yet undermanned defense. Thus, the Colts cover the large spread, win outright, and while sweating the under is no way to live, that’s what hits on TNF.

Prediction: Colts 34, Jets 10
