Jets Predicted To Surprisingly Select 32-TD QB in 1st Round of NFL Draft Despite Giving Justin Fields $40,000,000

The New York Jets overhauled their offense this offseason. Still, one NFL Draft Analyst predicts they'll take a QB in the first round.

The New York Jets need to reset their offense after a rough 2024. The Aaron Rodgers experiment fell flat, and the team has already moved on by signing Justin Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract.

But could the Jets still take a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft? One draft analyst thinks so — and has them targeting a 32-touchdown passer in the first round.

Jets Expected to Add Ole Miss QB at No. 7

The Jets’ offense ranked No. 19 in PFSN’s Offense+ metric last season — a major disappointment given the preseason hype. Rodgers never looked fully recovered from his Achilles injury, and even with Davante Adams on the roster, the unit couldn’t find a rhythm.

New York acted quickly this offseason, releasing Rodgers and signing Fields as free agency opened. But Fields is only signed for two years, and in his latest mock draft, NFL draft analyst Chad Reuter predicts the Jets will take Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart with the No. 7 pick.

Reuter wrote, “Justin Fields could join Sam Bradford (Philadelphia, 2016), Mike Glennon (Chicago, 2017), Andy Dalton (Chicago, 2021), Mitch Trubisky (Pittsburgh, 2022), and Kirk Cousins (Atlanta, 2024) as veteran quarterbacks signed to be QB1 until the team selected a passer in the first round. (All but Trubisky were overshadowed by top-11 picks.)

“In this simulation, the Jets appreciate Dart’s physical traits and work ethic, hoping that he or Fields will step up in a leadership role during 2025 and end the league’s longest playoff drought.”

Dart steadily improved in his three years at Ole Miss, raising his completion percentage, passing yards and touchdowns each season. In 2024, he threw for 4,279 yards and 29 touchdowns while completing 69.3% of his passes. He’s settled into the QB3 spot in this year’s class.

A team picking him No. 7 would mark a major rise for Dart, who was left out of many first-round mocks until recently. In PFSN’s latest mock draft, Ben Rolfe has Dart going to the Cleveland Browns at No. 29 in a trade with Washington. He instead projects the Jets to take Missouri tackle Armand Membou at No. 7.

Dart has the physical upside to be a starting-caliber NFL quarterback, but there are still questions about his mental processing, decision-making, and ability to run a pro-style offense. If the Jets do select him, Fields would likely remain the starter — at least early on. Still, a quarterback taken that high usually sees the field at some point during his rookie year.

It would be an interesting landing spot for Dart, especially with first-time head coach Aaron Glenn and first-time play-caller Tanner Engstrand leading the way.
