The New York Jets made it clear that they have a plan for approaching life after Aaron Rodgers. Signing Justin Fields as the starting quarterback while hiring Aaron Glenn as the new head coach seems to be their formula for building a steady playoff contender moving forward. However, given their personnel, it is also a blueprint that offers them much flexibility.
With the way Fields’ contract is structured, the 2025 season will be a prove-it year for the former first-round pick. Depending on his performance, New York could decide its course of action moving forward. One analyst, though, isn’t buying stock in Fields, instead pegging the Jets to draft a quarterback to secure their future.
Could the New York Jets Switch Quarterbacks 3 Times in 3 Years?
For any other franchise, that would feel like a bridge too far. But this is the Jets’ quarterback situation. Since their last playoff appearance well over a decade ago, the team hasn’t found stability in the sport’s most critical position.
Fields is the latest in a long line of potential names that could take them back to the postseason. But the former Chicago Bears star has yet to prove himself as a consistent starting-caliber quarterback in the NFL.
As a result, Jacob Infante of PFSN, in his latest mock draft, isn’t giving the team much chance to make a noise. Slotting them in with the second-worst record in the league, Infante believes they could end the Fields experiment after one season.
Instead, they’d bring on Cade Klubnik out of Clemson, according to his mock draft. One of the best passers and a legitimate dual-threat, Klubnik came into his own in the 2024 season, leading to some high praise from Infante.

“Cade Klubnik made considerable strides in 2024. He’s an accurate passer with good poise in the pocket and underrated mobility. His consistency, rhythm, and decision-making all give him a high floor and project him as a potential long-term starter in the NFL.”
Last year, Klubnik threw for 3,639 yards and 36 touchdowns, far ahead of his numbers from the previous two years combined (3,541 yards and 21 touchdowns). He also severely reduced his turnovers, recording just six interceptions, compared to 12 in his first two years.
However, the most surprising improvement in his game came on the ground. After tallying 321 yards and six total touchdowns in his first two seasons for Clemson, he took a significant step forward with 463 yards and seven touchdowns.
The growth has been distinct and palpable from the Tigers’ star and a potential Heisman Trophy candidate. If the Jets are as bad as Infante is pegging them to be, then it might be a no-brainer for the franchise to go after Klubnik and end their quarterback woes once and for all.
