ESPN reporter Rich Cimini posted about the injury update on X, writing:

“From Braelon Allen’s IG: Appears that he did opt for surgery. At the time of the injury, Aaron Glenn said Allen had the option of surgery or rehab, with the same timetable for return (2-3 months). There’s no point in rushing back for this season. #Jets”

Allen’s absence only adds to the struggling Jets’ problems. As the season rolls on, they could rely more on roster depth, underscoring the running back’s role in the backfield.

They still have some depth, although it is not of high quality. Behind clear-cut RB1 Breece Hall sit Isaiah Davis, Kene Nwangwu, and Khalil Herbert.

Davis has been the only active backup who has seen action this season, albeit at a minimal range in a filler capacity. Before Allen was ruled out, the injured back played a slightly bigger role in Aaron Glenn’s offense, having recorded a touchdown with his small workload.

Braelon Allen’s Injury Is a Blow to an Already Struggling Jets Team

The Jets have yet to win a game this season. While they’ve stayed in games more often than not, they haven’t been able to close out any contests.

The Tennessee Titans already sent Brian Callahan packing after a 1-5 start, and many are wondering how much longer the Jets will run the Glenn experiment. Without a win as a pro coach, Glenn will have to turn things around sooner rather than later.

There’s a big question mark over lineup stability, as he is still undecided on whether Justin Fields or Tyrod Taylor would start this week. Fields has been struggling to get the job done under Glenn’s reign, prompting backup Taylor to see increased action.

Fields started the season by frequently turning in solid performances, throwing for more than 200 yards in most games. However, his 45-yard passing game against the Denver Broncos in Week 6 signaled a sudden dropoff that has since brought his potential into question.
