Browns Star Jerry Jeudy Breaks Silence On Teaming Up With Rookie Shedeur Sanders

Jerry Jeudy has a lot riding on Shedeur Sanders' development. Here's what the wide receiver said about the new Cleveland Browns quarterback.

Jerry Jeudy and Shedeur Sanders had essentially opposite NFL Draft experiences. Sanders was built up to be one of the top options in the entire class, but was hit with the plot twist of the decade by dropping to the bottom half of the draft.

Jeudy, meanwhile, was drafted No. 15 overall in 2020, going off the board almost as fast as he can run. However, the wide receiver spent plenty of years working with a variety of quarterbacks with the Denver Broncos. Recently, the experienced veteran gave his impressions of the new Cleveland Browns QB.

Jerry Jeudy’s Frank Expectations for Fifth-Round Pick Shedeur Sanders

Speaking at his youth football camp, Jeudy answered a question about having Sanders as his teammate. In a clip posted by Carlucci Captures on Instagram on June 2, Jeudy relayed his expectations.

“I think he’s a great young quarterback coming to the Browns. I think he’s going to do a tremendous job for us. He’s a great dude. I’m excited to have him on our team,” Jeudy said.

Of course, Jeudy didn’t dive into what he meant by “tremendous job” entailed. However, calling a second or third-string quarterback “tremendous” could be a stretch.

Without openly saying it, Jeudy might have hinted at expecting Sanders to win the starting job. That said, unless he specifically says it himself in public, the comments can only be picked apart. Still, Sanders’ fate could end up setting the tone for Jeudy’s near future.

Jeudy’s Second Act Could Hinge on Sanders’ Summer Performance

At this point, the vast majority of fans know the stakes for Sanders. As a fifth-round pick, the Cleveland quarterback has little room for error. If he hits a wall this summer and struggles enough, there is nothing stopping the Browns from moving on.

With Jeudy signed through the end of his age-28 season per Spotrac, Sanders’ level of success could directly impact the speedy receiver’s future with the Browns organization. If the QB carousel doesn’t stop with Sanders, it could indicate that several more quarterbacks could come and go.

If Jeudy doesn’t pop with one of them, his highlight reel catches could take a hit, and it could be the catalyst for sending him out of Cleveland at the end of his deal.

As such, Jeudy has a personal stake in seeing Sanders succeed. Of course, he would benefit if another quarterback wins the job and becomes the future of the franchise, but many believe it’s Sanders or bust.

Will Jeudy get to set the stage for his next negotiation as the successful Sanders right-hand man or a wide receiver potentially (or not) held back by subpar quarterback play?
